The CJFL is proud to announce the Football Canada Players of the Week following Week 3 of the 2021 regular season.
Offensive Players of the Week
Ontario Conference
QB Ethan Belbeck – Hamilton Hurricanes
The GTA Grizzlies defence did not have any answers for the dual threat quarterback for the Hamilton Hurricanes. In leading his team to victory Belbeck completed 13 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns while also running the ball for a game high 92 yards on only four carries.
BC Conference
RB Malcolm Miller – Okanagan Sun
The Sun opened the season with a convincing win this past weekend and Miller was a major reason why. He galloped 128 yards on 12 carries which included a blistering 70 yard dash for a touchdown.
Defensive Players of the Week
Ontario Conference
DB Joshua Amador - GTA Grizzlies
Despite the loss the Grizzlies defensive back was seemingly everywhere on the field when they needed to make a tackle. Amador had nine solo stops while also assisting on three other tackles.
BC Conference
DL Kelon Thomas – Okanagan Sun
He made his CJFL debut and immediately put the rest of the Conference on notice. He was quick off the ball on every snap and finished the game with three tackles, a sack, a knockdown and forced a fumble while continuously getting into the opposition’s backfield.
Special Teams Players of the Week
Ontario Conference
LB Codey McRoberts – London Beefeaters
The Skyhawks’ kickers are sure to be having nightmares of Codey McRoberts. The Beefeater linebacker put on a highlight reel clinic on how to block kicks. In total he blocked three with one of them returned for a touchdown in the first quarter that opened the flood gates to the Beefeaters big road win. For good measure McRoberts also forced a fumble which he returned for 45 yards.
BC Conference
R Mike O’Shea – Okanagan Sun
What a debut for the former CFLer’s son. O’Shea returned five kicks for 123 yards including a 79 yard return for a touchdown in the late stages of the game on a terrific over the shoulder catch. Offensively he added four receptions for 116 yards and a 92-yard catch and run for a touchdown.
