Sights set on another Ontario Conference title

In February of this year the Hamilton Hurricanes got a shot in the arm when the team’s all-time winningest head coach Jason Hayes decided to return to the club.  He immediately began preparation for the 2021 season which is now just a couple of weeks away.  With the addition of Hayes the Hurricanes will once again be one of the favourites in the Ontario Conference and challenge for a title.  This year is particularly exciting as the winner will host the national championship Canadian Bowl.

What’s New:

As mentioned one of the biggest news stories for the Hurricanes has been the return of head coach Jason Hayes.   To date he has coached 11 seasons in Hamilton without missing the playoffs.  He has won 80 games and four Conference titles including the teams last in 2018.  The Hurricanes have also found a new practice facility and expectations are again high as the club’s motto, “Bring home Teddy,” in reference to the Conference championship trophy.

The 'Canes will play all of their home games this season in Brantford Ontario at the North Park Sports Complex on Bisons Alumni Field.

Key Returners:

WR Keyshaun Jordan – the former CJFL Rookie of the Year and All-Canadian, Jordan will once again be a threat each time he touches the ball.  In 2019 he hauled in 22 passes for 463 yards and had nine touchdowns

OL James Sides & Brady Cronin – both players are entering their final seasons and will be massive parts of the Hurricanes offence protecting the quarterback and blowing open running lanes.  Sides was named a Conference All-Star in 2019

DC Dave Missions – the defensive coordinator returns to the Hurricanes coaching staff and is a great defensive complement to the offensive mind of Hayes

Entering Final Season:

QB Ethan Belbeck – the returning starting pivot is poised for a huge season both throwing and running the ball.  In 2019 he was the only Ontario quarterback to complete over 100 passes (116), completing 63% of those passes for 1618 yards. He also converted on 16 touchdown passes.  He’s a mobile quarterback who collected 138 yards and six touchdowns last season

WR Quincey Belanger – is the perfect duo with Keyshaun Jordan.  In 2019 he led the Hurricanes with 33 receptions and compiled 409 yards and three touchdowns

LB Ty Bevan – he will be relied upon heavily this coming season as the inside linebacker.  He had nine solo tackles and had a sack back in 2019

The Hurricanes will no doubt challenge again for the Ontario Conference title in 2021. They open the season on the road playing the defending champion London Beefeaters on Saturday August 28th in the first Conference game of the season.
