Week 3 Ontario Conference Summary

Niagara Regional Raiders 20

The Sooners scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter and hung on, beating the Raiders 21-20 as both teams opened the CJFL season.

Quarterback Thompson Richards led the Sooners and finished 17 of 33 for 198 yards and threw a touchdown pass to William Rack.  Both Jalla Lansanah and Rack each scored touchdowns on the ground as well.

Defensively Sean Fevrier picked off a pass and Jordan Taylor recorded a sack.

The Raiders quarterback John Peele completed just nine passes, but two of them were caught for touchdowns by David Raza.  In all Raza caught three passes for 105 yards.  Running back Matthew Christie also scored a touchdown.

On the defensive side Tyson Delic led the way with a game high seven tackles and Dillon Caldwell picked off a pass and recovered a fumble.

Next week the Sooners (1-0) will stay at home and host the GTA Grizzlies (0-1) while the Raiders (0-1) will host the Windsor AKO Fratmen (0-1).

The Hurricanes offence exploded for 429 yards of total offence and tallied 24 first downs as they dominated the Fratmen in their CJFL opener.

Their ground game tallied 262 yards led by Jayden Hyland’s two touchdowns on 12 carries and 83 yards.  Jevante Stanley rushed seven times for 93 yards.

Quarterback Jake Marquette was nine of 19 for 173 yards and threw three touchdowns.   Two of those were caught by Colin O’Conner while Keyshaun Jordan hauled in the other.

In all the ‘Canes defence recorded five sacks and Derrick Baddeley had a 10 yard pick six.

The Fratmen offence was frustrated recording 131 yards of total offence and only 25 of those on the ground.  Their lone touchdown came from running back Samuel Tshiani.  Meanwhile quarterback Colton Allen made his first CJFL start and finished seven of 14 for 125 yards.

Next week the Hurricanes (1-0) will visit the London Beefeaters (1-0) while the Fratmen (0-1) will travel to face the Niagara Regional Raiders (0-1).

GTA Grizzlies 0

Sunday afternoon the Beefeaters dominated the Grizzlies in their CJFL opener.

The Beefeaters defence didn’t allow a completion and forced three interceptions, two of which resulting in a pick-six.  Jackson Werstine returned one 51 yards for a major while Logan Vandevyre brought back an interception 32 yards for a touchdown.  Andrew Varfee recorded the other pick.

Offensively quarterback Clarke McCallum completed 17 of 27 for 176 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns, one to Josh Waller, the other to Jeseph Varfee.

The Grizzlies could only muster 26 net offensive yards, all on the ground.

Their defence forced two interceptions collected by Jacob Mendel and Chevon Molloy.

Next week the Beefeaters (1-0) will host the Hamilton Hurricanes (1-0) while the Grizzlies (0-1) visit the Ottawa Sooners (1-0).
