A game 40 years in the making was well worth the wait in a back and forth game on Saturday night as the Wildcats used a 17 point fourth quarter to claim the win.

“I’m just happy for our guys,” says Wildcats head coach Darcy Park.  They’ve worked hard and they deserve this.”

It was the first win of the season for the Cats who used 213 yards through the air with three different quarterbacks.  Colton Hippe threw a touchdown pass to Zach Burgess in the fourth quarter.

On the ground they collected 188 yards as both Bray Josue and Matt Heinrichs each scored touchdowns and offensive lineman Mike Rea recovered a Wildcats fumble in the endzone for another major.

The Hurricanes played an excellent game leading for the first three quarters before running out of gas in the fourth.

Quarterback Jake Marquette was simply outstanding with 24 completions for 335 yards and three touchdowns.  He also ran eight times and scored two more touchdowns.

Receiver Trey Ivey was solid making six catches for a game high 116 yards.  Emmett Putt hauled in a pair of touchdowns while Anthony Federico scored another from 29 yards.

The Canes defence was led by Zach Hoffner who had a game high eight tackles.  Zack Sibley picked off a pass and Spencer Turpin blocked a kick.

It was the first meeting between these two clubs since the 1997 Armadale Cup (Canadian Bowl) in which the Wildcats won.  Members of that ’77 team were on hand on Saturday night to watch this history making CJFL game.

This coming weekend the Wildcats (1-5) will visit the Saskatoon Hilltops (5-1) while the Hurricanes (3-3) will head up the road to face the GTA Grizzlies (1-5).

Calgary Colts 58
London Beefeaters 0

The Colts put together their most dominating game this season collecting 545 yards of total offence in their historic win over the Beefeaters.

Colts quarterback Bailey Wasdal was 20 of 28 for 310 yards and threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers.  Brandon MacIsaac, Jesse Kuntz, Dallas Burke and Tarrik Anderson each caught one.

On the ground Dylan Minshull and Landon Rose scored majors as the Colts galloped for 196 yards.

On the defensive side they would hold the Beefeaters to 120 yards of total offence led by Austin Daisy’s five solo tackles.

The game was the first ever between these two franchises.

This coming weekend the Beefeaters (4-2) will host the Ottawa Sooners (2-4) while the Colts (2-4) visit the Regina Thunder (4-2).
