History will once again be made on Sunday when the Hamilton Hurricanes welcome the Regina Thunder in a CJFL Interconference Game. These two have never met in a regular season match-up.
That said, since 1972 they have met six times, each in a Canadian Bowl. The last was in 1993 when the Regina “Rams” defeated the Hurricanes 23-11.
Speaking of 1972, the Hurricanes have invited members of their national championship winning team to the game on Sunday to be honoured. That Canes team beat Regina 33-8.
This season both teams are coming off a win, the Thunder destroying the Edmonton Wildcats 55-7 while the Hurricanes escaped Ottawa with a 33-31 win. Sunday’s game will be the Hurricanes home opener.
Ryan Watters speaks to Hurricanes head coach Jason Hayes about this history making game.
