SATURDAY

PRAIRIE CONFERENCE

Regina Thunder @ Saskatoon Hilltops – Saturday September 30, 7:00pm – SMF Field | WATCH HERE

It’s a game that more than likely will determine first place in the Prairie Conference when the Hilltops welcome the Thunder.  It’s also the second meeting of the season between these two powerhouses.

Earlier this month the Hilltops dominated the Thunder in Regina to the tune of 36-6 keeping them out of the endzone.  Quarterback Trey Reider led the offensive push, throwing for three touchdowns, all of them caught by Noah Flaman.  Boston Davidsen rushed for 120 yards and a score as well.

The Hilltops defence has been outstanding, allowing over seven points in only one game this season.

The Thunder have won two in a row and need to beat the Hilltops by over 30 points to take back the tiebreaker.  This is their final road game of the regular season.

This is the first half of a home-and-home to round out the regular season for both these teams.

BC CONFERENCE

Valley Huskers @ Langley Rams – Saturday September 30, 4:00pm – McLeod Stadium | WATCH HERE

This is a massive game for third place in the BC Conference and a chance to avoid a trip to the Island for a first-round playoff match up against the top ranked Westshore Rebels.

Back in Week 1 the Huskers beat the Rams 26-18 so currently hold the tiebreaker if they should finish with identical records.   The Huskers controlled the line of scrimmage that day when Reece Wyke rushed 19 times for 123 yards and had a touchdown.

The Huskers are coming off a 34-12 win over Prince George in Chilliwack last week and have won four of their last five.

The Rams have won three straight lopsided games and their defence has really played well including pitching a shutout during this win streak.  This is their final home game of the year.

Okanagan Sun @ Prince George Kodiaks – Saturday September 30, 7:00pm – Masich Stadium | WATCH HERE

It’s the first of a home and home as the Sun visit Prince George for the second time this season.  In Week 1 they blanked the Kodiaks 32-0 as their defence pitched the shutout.

The Sun are coming off their bye week which means they will be very rested before making the eight-hour bus ride north.  In their two straight wins before their bye, the offence scored over 65 points each game and they are hoping for more of the same in PG.

For the Kodiaks, it’s their final home game of the season and are hoping to give their faithful something to cheer about.  They have only won once on their home turf this season.  They have lost three straight and are all but out of the playoff picture.  Their players are now playing for jobs next season.

SUNDAY

PRAIRIE CONFERENCE

Edmonton Huskies @ Winnipeg Rifles – Sunday October 1, 11:00am – Maple Grove | WATCH HERE

It’s an important match-up for both teams on Sunday morning in Winnipeg when the Huskies pay a visit to the Rifles.   It’s a rematch of their first game of the season when the Rifles beat the Huskies 20-16.

If the Huskies win, they would clinch a playoff spot and at the same time eliminate the Rifles from the postseason.  A Rifles win would keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Huskies have lost two in a row and find themselves on the road for their final two games including this one in Winnipeg.   They are currently 1-1 away from Edmonton.

Meanwhile the Rifles desperately need a win in their final home game before heading to Saskatoon next week in the regular season finale.  Their defence earned a shutout last week and will hope to build on that momentum for their game this Sunday.    In their first win against the Huskies Roy Tambal Musa had a massive 90-yard kick return for a touchdown to help turn the tide.

ONTARIO CONFERENCE

Ottawa Sooners @ GTA Grizzlies – Sunday October 1, 1:00pm – Chinguacousy Park | WATCH HERE

This is the second time these two lock up after the Sooners pounded the Grizzlies 76-0 on September 9th.

Last week the Sooners gave the first place St. Clair Saints a scare falling by two points, which is the closest margin of victory for the Saints all season.  The setback snapped the Sooners three game win streak.  With a win on Sunday, they will clinch a playoff spot in the Canadian Bowl playoffs.

For the Grizzlies, it’s been a tough season and will play their final game on Sunday.  Players will look to gain some momentum heading into the offseason as they try to turn things around in 2024.

London Beefeaters @ Quinte Skyhawks – Sunday October 1, 2:00pm – Loyalist College | WATCH HERE

The Beefeaters have clinched second place and know they will host Hamilton in an Ontario Conference semi-final regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s game.  They will no doubt give some or all of their starters a rest if they can get a lead on the Skyhawks.   They have won three straight games coming into this weekend, a string that started with an impressive 70-3 victory over the Skyhawks on September 9th.

Speaking of the Skyhawks they need a win this weekend, then score a victory next weekend at St. Clair and have Ottawa lose on Sunday to clinch a playoff spot.  It’s a tough road to hoe.  They have lost four straight coming into this matchup with the Beefeaters.

Head-to-Head

Avg Points For: Beefeaters 35 – Skyhawks 20.3
Avg Points Allowed: Beefeaters 14.5 – Skyhawks 36

Leading Tacklers: Burkely Banilevic – 48 tackles (Skyhawks)

St. Clair Saints @ Hamilton Hurricanes – Sunday October 1, 5:00pm – Tim Hortons Field | WATCH HERE

It’s a game that means nothing in the standings. The Saints will finish first in the Conference while the Hurricanes will finish third and head into the postseason.  In their first meeting of the year the Saints blasted the Hurricanes 62-21 and have remained undefeated all season.

The Hurricanes snapped their two games slide last week with a 44-23 victory at Quinte. Unlike the Saints, this is their final game of the regular season and will prepare for a date with the London Beefeaters in the playoffs.
