The Rebels, Sun and Rams each with lopsided wins

Three lopsided wins on Saturday highlighted Week 8 in the BC Conference.
Westshore Rebels 95
VI Raiders 14
The hometown Rebels came out flying in the first quarter scoring 23 points en route to the victory.
Offensively quarterback Te Jessie amassed 358 yards on 15 completions and threw six touchdown passes. He connected with Kieran Poissant for three of them and found CJ Vincent, Cairo Berry and Tristan Remus-Arevalo for singles.
Speaking of Berry, he, and teammate Chris McLarty each returned a punt for a touchdown in the ballgame.
The ground game chewed up 247 yards led by Gerren Hardisty who scampered for 123 yards on eight carries and had a touchdown. Malik Gagne-Smith, Manny Mansaray and Ryan Vincent also had majors on the ground.
Defensively they held the Raiders to 67 net yards of total offence.
The Raiders two touchdowns both came in the second quarter. Arguably the highlight of their game came from a 76-yard pick-six by Kaya Saunders. Their only other score was a Ben Chomolok touchdown pass to Ruben Bonsu.
Next week the Rebels (7-0) will visit the Kamloops Broncos (0-6) while the Raiders (0-7) head home to welcome the Langley Rams (4-2).
Okanagan Sun 66
Kamloops Broncos 7
The Kamloops Broncos scored on their first drive on Saturday night but were then shutout by the Okanagan Sun the rest of the way and fell 66-7.
Offensively on the ground the Sun churned up 261 yards and scored five touchdowns. Tristen Peddle had two of them, while Aidan Wieberg, Kyle Dennis and Adam Rocha each had one. Rocha also threw for a pair of touchdowns and Hunter Norman threw another. Receiver Sam Melanson caught two of those touchdown passes and Ethan Marshall caught the other one.
On the defensive side Philip Palmarin turned in a sparkling game. He blocked three kicks, had a sack, had two fumble recoveries, an interception and a tackle.
The lone Bronco touchdown came on their opening drive when Josh Chairison found Colton Meikle for the major.
Next weekend the Sun (5-1) will enjoy the bye week and the Broncos (0-6) host the top ranked Westshore Rebels (7-0).
Langley Rams 39
Prince George Kodiaks 17
The Kodiaks had a difficult time keeping up with the Jones’ this past weekend as the Rams went into Prince George and took down the Kodiaks winning both games in the home-and-home.
Offensively the Rams saw quarterback Trey Jones complete 18 passes for 239 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns to Isaiah Edwards. Running back Bruce Jones also scored twice on 12 carries. Receiver Terrel Jones hauled in four passes for 49 yards.
The defence also got into the endzone when Drew Lirag recovered a loose ball and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. Kinneth Balucos had a solid game with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Over on the Kodiaks side, quarterback Kayle Cowley threw two touchdown passes finding Jerome Erickson and Kaden Wagner.
Their defence was led by Aidan Simpson and Jason Kragt who each had eight tackles, with Simpson adding an interception and a knockdown.
Next weekend the Rams (4-2) stay on the road and visit the VI Raiders (0-7) and the Kodiaks (2-4) welcome the Valley Huskers (4-2).

It’s the second time in three weeks that these two teams lock up after the Sooners blasted the Skyhawks 50-3 in Bellevue.
Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot and need a win to keep pace with the teams in front of them.

For the second time this season the Sun and Broncos will renew their BC Interior rivalry, but this time in Kamloops. Back on August 12th the Sun took home the victory; 32-12, scoring 27 of their 32 points in the second half. The Broncos on the other hand scored all 12 of their points in the second quarter.
Coming into this game the Sun are 1-1 on the road, and for the Broncos this is their home opener after playing their first five games on the road.

The battle for Vancouver Island ignites again this weekend with the Rebels hosting the Raiders. In their first meeting earlier this year, the Rebels dominated winning 69-0 in the season opener. Quarterback Te Jessie threw five touchdowns in that game, two of them caught by Cairo Berry. Speaking of Berry, he also returned a punt for a touchdown.
Coming into the weekend the Rebels remain undefeated while the Raiders are still searching for their first win.

It’s the second half a home and home after the Rams beat up the Kodiaks last week 62-0. Their defence was spectacular holding the Kodiaks to 36 passing yards and 61 rushing yards. Both Trey Jones and Maxwell Bougie each threw a pair of touchdown passes.
The Rams currently hold down the final playoff sport in the BC Conference with the Kodiaks two points behind. They have won three of their last four and the Kodiaks had their two-game winning streak snapped last week.

Saskatoon Hilltops @ Edmonton Wildcats – Sunday September 18, 1:00pm – Emerald Hills | WATCH HERE
The undefeated Hilltops travel to Edmonton to face the Wildcats for the second time this season. In their first meeting the Toppers crushed the Wildcats 50-2. Their defence was incredible, with the only two points the Wildcats got was courtesy of a conceded safety.
That Hilltops defence is the stingiest in the Conference and arguably the best across the CJFL. They face a Wildcats offence that has sputtered all season long. The Wildcats are still looking for their first win of the year.

These two teams meet for the second time this season after the Thunder held serve at home winning 45-21 at the end of August. They scored 21 of their 45 points in the second quarter after the Rifles opened up a 14-0 lead after one. Quarterback Carter Moberg threw four touchdown passes.
The Thunder are coming off their first regular season loss since September 7, 2019, a very impressive run. Last week they fell to the Hilltops and didn’t score a touchdown. The Rifles on the other hand have been struggling and have lost three in a row, including the setback at the hands of the Thunder. Their next three games are at home as they look to get back into the playoff conversation.

The Huskies and Colts renew their acquaintances on Sunday afternoon in Calgary after their first meeting became a shootout. On August 19th the Huskies took down the Colts 51-38 as the teams combined for 571 passing yards. Both Carson Neitz and Liam Oczkowski each threw a pair of touchdown passes.
Last weekend the Huskies won their third straight, a streak that began with the win over the Colts. During this streak, they have averaged 40 points a game. The Colts meanwhile won their first of the season last weekend with an exciting 33-21 victory over the Rifles.

It’s the final game of Week 8 across the CJFL as these teams meet for the second time this season. On August 20th in London, the Beefeaters calmed the Hurricanes 41-6. Defensively the Beefeaters were solid.
They snapped their two-game slide last week with an important win over Quinte and are 1-1 on the road. The Hurricanes lost last week but have won two of their last three. This is a very important matchup against the Beefeaters and need to have a massive offensive outpouring to regain the advantage in the tiebreaker.

The Rebels and Huskers claim victory

A pair of games in BC during the Labour Day long weekend with the Rebels and Huskers winning.
Westshore Rebels 28
Langley Rams 21
In a very entertaining game, the Rebels remain perfect after scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter beating the Rams by a touchdown.
Quarterback Te Jessie found his grove in the fourth quarter finishing the game 20 of 32 for 292 yards and connected with Kieran Poissant for a touchdown. He also ran for a major, but characteristically threw three interceptions. Speaking of Poissant, he made 10 receptions for 181 yards including an 88 yarder.
The Rebels did find success on the ground as Gerren Hardisty led the way with two touchdowns on 19 carries and 100 yards.
On the defensive side, the Rebels kept the Rams to under 100 yards on the ground as Demar Hohnstein had another outstanding game with nine tackles and forced a fumble.
The Rams had a seven-point lead heading into the final quarter but didn’t have enough in the tank to hold down the Rebels high flying offence. Their defence forced five turnovers including those three inceptions, two made by Kyle Huish. Owen Merry had the other.
Offensively quarterback Trey Jones completed 15 passes for 218 yards and hit Broxx Comia for a touchdown. He caught five passes for 113 yards. Jones used his legs in the ballgame and punched it into the endzone from a yard out and Kairo Hassan also scored a touchdown on the ground.
Next week the Rebels (5-0) will host the Valley Huskers (4-1) in their only meeting of the season. Meanwhile the Rams (2-2) will welcome the Prince George Kodiaks (2-2).
Valley Huskers 29
Kamloops Broncos 0
The Huskers defence played an outstanding game, shutting out the Broncos forcing three turnovers and holding them to only 19 yards on the ground and 113 overall. Sawyer Tether picked off a pass and Raiden Mastin jumped on a fumble.
Quarterback Tyran Duval spread the ball around to nine different receivers and completed 19 passes for 305 yards and hit Brandon Halsey for a short touchdown pass. Running back Reece Wyke had a great game, galloping 18 times for 119 yards and had a touchdown. TJ Robertson also scored on the ground.
Next weekend the Huskers (4-1) will head to the Island to try and slow down the Westshore Rebels (5-0) and the Broncos (0-5) will enjoy a bye week.
