The CJFL is proud to announce the Players of the Week following a very exciting 116th Canadian Bowl championship game that the St. Clair Saints won 37-22 over the visiting Okanagan Sun.
Offensive Player of the Week
QB Maurice Sodja – St. Clair Saints
Simply put, it was an incredible individual effort by quarterback Maurice Sodja of the Saints, the catalyst of their offence propelling them to a national title. Throwing the ball, he completed 15 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown pass. With his leg he was extremely dangerous carrying the ball making plays at will. He rushed 25 times for 122 yards and scored three more touchdowns. Those three rushing majors are tied for second most in a Canadian Bowl game. He’s the first quarterback since 2017 to be named the Offensive Player of the Game.
Defensive Player of the Week
LB Jacob Bond – Okanagan Sun
He was the BC Conference Defensive Player of the Year and turned in another wonderful individual performance in the Canadian Bowl in a losing cause. He intercepted a pass, returning it 12 yards, collected a game high six solo tackles, three assisted stops and forced a fumble. He added three more special teams tackles to his output. His 27 defensive points ties him for the third most in a Canadian Bowl game.
Special Teams Player of the Week
P Cameron St. Kitts-Park – St. Clair Saints
When a Saints drive stalled on Saturday night, All-Canadian receiver Cameron St. Kitts-Park showed his versatility and leg strength by taking on the role of punter…and he’s really good at it. He kicked away eight punts and collected a net yard average of 31.1 yards. He also returned a pair of kick offs for 45 yards and was named the Special Teams Player of the Canadian Bowl.
