Week 3 Prairie Conference Summary

The Hilltops, Huskies and Rifles move to 1-0

The Rifles displayed a balanced attack.  First year starting quarterback Riley Naujoks finished 11 of 27 for 135 yards and threw a 50 yard catch and run touchdown to Griffin Shillingford.

On the ground Mathe Mitayango sprinted 24 times for 122 yards to give the Rifles that balanced look.

Defensively they would force a pair of turnovers including an interception from Justin Kwiatkoski.  In all they would collect three sacks and Cole Sneesby had a team high five tackles.

The Wildcats needed to rely on their quarterback Justin Swedish as the running attack was held to 37 yards.  Swedish completed 16 of 32 for 208 yards.

Their lone points came in the second quarter when Rosario Cammarata hit a 12 yard field goal.

Next week the Rifles (1-0) visit the Regina Thunder (0-1) while the Wildcats (0-1) host their crosstown rivals the Huskies (1-0).

The 4x defending Canadian Bowl champion Saskatoon Hilltops picked up right where they left off collecting 584 yards of total offence.  Quarterback Jordan Walls was impressive completing 20 of 29 for 316 yards and threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Matt Turple.

On the ground Ben Abrook announced himself carrying the rock 27 times for 171 yards and scored three touchdowns. Kelton McLean also scored on the ground for the champs.

Defensively they didn’t give up much allowing 66 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers.  Cody Peters had three tackles and forced two fumbles.

The Thunder scored in the first quarter and then were shut-out the rest of the way.  Their lone touchdown was a pass from Brock Sich to Tanner Zaharia.   Sich completed 13 of 24 for 205 yards.

Next week the Hilltops (1-0) host the Calgary Colts (0-1) while the Thunder (0-1) welcome the Winnipeg Rifles (1-0).

The Huskies completely overpowered the Colts in every position on the field.  They tallied 573 yards offensively and held the Colts to just 88.

Quarterback Tommy Yanchuk completed 14 of 26 passes finding 10 different receivers for 262 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns.  Both Conner Mikel and Sam Clayton each caught a major.

On the ground the Huskies scored five touchdowns.   Brandt Burzuk collected two majors on 17 carries and 123 yards.  Yanchuk, Shamaar Booth and Morgan Runge also found pay dirt.

Their stifling defence forced three turnovers.  Both Oshane Samuels and Brandon Mellen intercepted a pass.  Alex Veer and Blaize Beaudry both had a sack.

The Colts showed their youth on Sunday.  Quarterback Cole Belway finished 11 of 25 for 81 yards.

Next week the Huskies (1-0) play their crosstown rival the Wildcats (0-1) and the Colts (0-1) visit the Saskatoon Hilltops (1-0).
