Just one game in the Prairie Conference this past weekend

There was just one game in the Prairies this past weekend but it was a dandy.

Regina Thunder 29
Saskatoon Hilltops 26

Saturday night in Saskatoon was arguably the best game of the CJFL season to date as the Thunder used a 23 point second half to come back to beat the Saskatoon Hilltops 29-26.

Both teams surprisingly used the passing attack rather than their talented running backs to move the football.   The Thunder’s Sawyer Buettner finished 33 of 40 for 374 yards a pair of touchdowns compared to Jordan Walls of the Hilltops who was 27 of 41 for 351 yards and two touchdowns.  In all the pivots combined for 725 yards through the air.

Buettner used nine different receivers led by Levi Paul’s 10 receptions for 120 yards.  Isaac Foord and Lee Brown hauled in majors.

Walls on the other hand threw passes to eight different receivers with Sam Mike and Ryan Turple catching touchdown passes.  Turple caught nine passes for 122 yards.

On the defence Tyson Haubrich led the Thunder with six tackles and Jesse St. John intercepted a pass.

Colton Holmes and Cam Schnitzler were outstanding for the Hilltops.  Holmes had a game high eight solo tackles and Schnitzler collected seven.

The Thunder (3-1) will host the Winnipeg Rifles (3-1) on Saturday night and the Hilltops (3-1) will head to Calgary to face the Colts (1-3) on Sunday afternoon.
