While the rest of the PFC had the week off, the battle for Saskatchewan heated up as the Hilltops hosted the Thunder under the lights at SMF Field.

Saskatoon Hilltops 20
Regina Thunder 18

It was the lone game in the PFC and both offences combined for 940 yards of total offence, but couldn’t punch it into the endzone.

Thunder quarterback Sawyer Buettner set a new CJFL record completing 43 passes, good for 422 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns.  Levi Paul caught 13 of those record setting completions and gained a game high 157 yards.  In all the visitors gained 522 total yards of offence.

While the Thunder threw the ball, the Hilltops ran it.  Running back Logan Fischer had a game high 18 carries for 134 yards and scored a major.  Quarterback Jared Andreychuk finished 13 of 20 for 174 yards and a pick.

The Hilltops defence bent, but didn’t break even with a final push by the Thunder in the late stages of the game. Cameron Schnitzler added nine more solo tackles to his Conference leading total and Logan Kelsey-Stern intercepted a pass.

The lone Thunder takeaway was a Polis Koko interception.

Saturday night the Hilltops (4-1) make history travelling to BC to face the Okanagan Sun (6-1) in a rematch of the 2015 Canadian Bowl.  The Thunder (3-2) will battle the Calgary Colts (4-0) in Medicine Hat.
