Despite allowing 502 yards of total offence to the visiting Regina Thunder, the Calgary Colt defence bent but didn’t break.  With the win, head coach Matt Snoop Blokker collects his 100th CJFL regular season victory.

Colts’ quarterback Bailey Wasdal finished 11 of 22 for 230 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Richard Sindani and Jesse Kuntz.  Sindani led all receivers recording 124 yards on four receptions.  The ground game was outstanding as Xavier Ramsay rushed 21 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

The defence forced three interceptions, Colton Burr getting two and Dylan Niedermaier making the other.  Kendrick Ankamah had a game high seven tackles.

The Thunder offence scored all but one of their points in the second quarter.  Sawyer Buettner gathered 20 completions for 226 yards, but threw three interceptions.  Running back Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette was the best threat carrying 26 times for 188 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively the Thunder gave up 402 total offensive yards to the Colts and Polis Koko had a team high four solo tackles.

The Colts (2-0) will face the Saskatoon Hilltops (2-0) on Sunday afternoon in a rematch of last season’s PFC final while the Thunder (1-1) will play at Winnipeg on Saturday night against the Rifles (1-1).

Winnipeg Rifles 42
Edmonton Wildcats 28

The Rifles gained 539 yards of total offence in the “Michael Ritchott Show.”   The running back (pictured) was simply outstanding carrying 33 times for 358 yards and two touchdowns.  His 358 yards is sixth all time in CJFL history.  Rifles quarterback Jamie Ybarra Jr. finished six of 12 for 84 yards and threw touchdown passes to Patrick Bissonnette and Brendan Naujoks and ran one in as well.

The Rifles “D” forced two interceptions as Andrew Richard and Stefan Conway each had one.

The Wildcats were in the game early scoring 21 points in the first half, but only seven in the second half.  Unlike the Rifles, the Cats run game struggled gaining 150 total yards.

Quarterback Colton Hippie finished 17 of 25 for 263 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Luther Hakunavanhu.

Defensively both Tony Savchuk and Jayden Dalke intercepted a pass while Taylor Visser had a game high seven tackles.

The Rifles (1-1) stay at home to host the Regina Thunder (1-1) on Saturday night and the Wildcats (0-2) will face their cross town rivals the Huskies (0-2) also on Saturday night.

Saskatoon Hilltops 35
Edmonton Huskies 20

Despite getting outgained on offence in the stats book, the defending champs won their second straight to open the season.  Quarterback Jared Andreychuk finished 20 of 28 for 218 yards and threw a one yard touchdown pass linebacker Tom Schnitzler.  He also ran for a touchdown.  Speaking of which, the ground assault scored four touchdowns led by Logan Fischer’s 66 yards and three majors.

On the defensive side the Hilltops allowed just three points in the first half.  Lineman Blake Hermann collected three sacks and six solo tackles

The Huskies played well despite the loss.  Quarterback Brad Launardt finished 21 of 38 for 261 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns to Connor Bergersen in the third quarter.

The Hilltops (2-0) will host the Calgary Colts (2-0) on Sunday while the Huskies (0-2) stay at home to face their city rivals the Wildcats (0-2) on Saturday night.
