The best individual performances from the past weekend

The CJFL is pleased to announce the Week 9 Players of the Week following another exciting weekend of peak individual performances.

Offensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
RB Reece Wyke – Valley Huskers

He was a running machine in the Huskers fifth win of the season.  He carried the rock 22 times for 222 yards and scored two touchdowns.  He also made one catch for three-yards coming out of the backfield.

Ontario Conference
RB LJ Dyer - London Beefeaters

In winning this award for the third time this year and as he has done all season for London, LJ Dyer ran through, over and around defenders in the Beefeaters’ big win over the GTA Grizzlies.  Dyer blasted his way for 120 yards on 16 carries, with three of those carries resulting in touchdowns.  He becomes the first running back in the CJFL this season to hit the 1000-yard plateau.

Prairie Conference (tie)
RB Boston Davidsen – Saskatoon Hilltops

What a game for Boston Davidsen against a usually very solid Huskies defence.  He shed them for 196 yards on 24 carries and had a pair of touchdowns.  He also made two receptions for 21 yards coming out of the backfield.

RB Ryland Leichert – Regina Thunder

He was virtually unstoppable on the weekend carrying the ball 22 times for 199 yards and he scored two touchdowns en route to the Thunder’s pounding of the Colts.

Defensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
LB Jaiden Claassen – Valley Huskers

It was another massive game defensively for Jaiden Claassen helping the Huskers slowdown the visiting Prince George Kodiaks.  He collected an interception, eight tackles, and assisted on eight others.

Ontario Conference
DL Burkely Banilevic – Quinte Skyhawks

Despite the loss to Hamilton, the Skyhawks’ stalwart defensive lineman spent the game rewriting the record books.  As the Hurricanes kept dialing up plays, Burkely Banilevic kept answering the bell, over and over and over again as he wracked up an Ontario Conference and CJFL record 20 solo tackles in the game for an incredible 40 defensive points.

Prairie Conference
DB Sam Kolkman – Edmonton Huskies

It was a tough game defensively for the Huskies on the weekend trying to slow down the Saskatoon Hilltops.  One of the bright spots was Sam Kolkman who finished with two interceptions against the top-rated passer in the Conference along with five tackles and he forced a fumble.

Special Teams Players of the Week

BC Conference
KR Christopher Rolack III – Valley Huskers

The return specialist had one of the most exciting plays in the BC Conference this past weekend with a 103-yard return for a touchdown.  In all he ran back three kick-offs, and averaged 44.3 yards each time.

Ontario Conference
PK Jad Olliek – Ottawa Sooners

Certainly, holding up his end in a spirited Sooners’ failed bid to hand the Saints their first loss of the season, Jad Olliek held up his end of the deal as he connected on 4 of 5 field goal attempts including hitting long range bombs from 49 and 51 yards.  His only failed attempt from 55 yards away was a result of faulty blocking that resulted in a blocked kick. He was also perfect on two extra point attempts and averaged 36.8 yards on his five punts.

Prairie Conference
PK Alex Minor – Winnipeg Rifles

He became a factor for the Rifles in their second win of the season.  He connected on a 25-yard field goal, which accounted for the only scoring in the second quarter for either team.  He also was a perfect 5-5 in converts, scored a single off a kick-off and made eight punts, averaging over 27 yards with each boot.
