The Saints adjusted at halftime and scored 20 second half points en route to the victory over the visiting Ottawa Sooners in an Ontario Conference semi-final.

Offensively quarterback Maurice Sodja was a double threat using his arm when needed, but it was his legs that propelled his club.  He rushed 14 times for a game high 124 yards and a touchdown.  When he did throw the ball, he completed six passes for 101 yards and found Kevin Laryea for a 19-yard major.

Special teams played a big factor in the game as well as Saints’ kicker Preston Knight connected on all five field goal attempts with his longest being from 36 yards out.

The defence was solid for the Saints holding the Sooners to just three points and 131 offensive yards.   All-Star Keewone Parker was outstanding compiling 7.5 tackles and was seemingly all over the field. 

The Sooners didn’t have much push offensively and were kept off the scoresheet.  The points came on a conceded safety and a single by kicker Jad Olleik. 

This coming weekend the Saints will hos the London Beefeaters in the Ontario Conference finale with the winner moving onto the CJFL National Semi-Final game in Saskatchewan.

Hamilton Hurricanes 7

The Beefeaters hammered the Hurricanes in the Ontario Conference semi-final on Saturday doing what they do best…run the football.

They gained 320 yards on the ground led by Geoff Clubine who carried the ball 11 times for 216 yards and had a pair of touchdowns.  He averaged almost 20 yards a carry and broke one run 89-yards for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter.

All-Star running back and Ontario Conference rushing champion LJ Dyer was very efficient rushing 10 times for 84 yards and scored three touchdowns. 

Defensively the Beefeaters did cough up 300 yards of total offence to the Hurricanes but they did stand tall allowing only one touchdown and forced six turnovers.  Defensive lineman Christian Thompson picked up a fumble and rumbled 20-yards for touchdown to add to the Beefeaters scoring. 

Despite the loss and lack of points the Hurricanes did run the ball well gaining 225 yards led by Carter Miscione who rushed four times for 121 yards including an 81-yard dash. 

The lone Hurricanes touchdown came in the third quarter on a four-yard strike to Jeremy Hicks from quarterback James Duke.

The Beefeaters advance in the CJFL Canadian Bowl Playoffs and will know meet the St. Clair Saints in the Ontario Conference Final on Saturday night in Windsor.  The winner moves onto the CJFL National Semi-Final.
