The Huskers and Broncos will battle for the second and final time this season on Saturday afternoon.  In their first meeting the Huskers shut them out 29-0.

Defensively the Huskers held the Broncos to 19-yards on the ground and only 120 through the air.   Conversely their offence combined for 455 total yards.

The Huskers have clinched at least third place in the BC Conference and have won two straight games.  Meanwhile the Broncos are coming off their first win of the season and are at home for the fourth straight game.

Prince George Kodiaks @ Okanagan Sun – Saturday October 7, 4:00pm – Apple Bowl | WATCH HERE

It’s the second half of a home-and-home after the Sun throttled the Kodiaks 74-14 last weekend in Prince George.  

After scoring just two points in the first quarter, the Sun exploded for 31 in the second frame and didn’t look back.   Their offence was balanced scoring 10 touchdowns; five running the ball and five through the air.

The Sun have clinched a playoff spot, but positioning hasn’t been finalized with the Valley Huskers hot on their heels.  A win on Saturday would get them one step closer to a home playoff date but the Kodiaks are looking to spoil the party and steal a victory at the Apple Bowl.

Langley Rams @ Westshore Rebels – Saturday October 7, 4:00pm – Starlight Stadium | WATCH HERE

All season long the Rebels have dominated their opponents winning each game by double-digits…all games except for one, the first meeting with the Rams. 

The Rebels needed to score 21 points in the fourth quarter to comeback to beat the Rams and stay unbeaten in their first meeting on September 2nd.  The Rams defence played well and forced quarterback Te Jessie to throw three interceptions.  

Speaking of Jessie, he is two touchdown passes away from setting a new CJFL single season record for majors, currently sitting at 34. 
Throughout the season the Rebels have been clicking on all cylinders and remain undefeated and the top team the country with an extremely potent offence and an equally stellar defence.  
On the Rams side they have been very good on defence and a bit inconsistent on the offensive side.  Last week they had their three-game winning streak snapped in a loss to the Valley Huskers a team they needed to beat to move up in the standings.

This game is a very intriguing match-up because it’s also a playoff preview, so both teams may not show their entire hand.

ONTARIO CONFERENCE

It’s the final game of the regular season in the Ontario Conference and doesn’t mean anything in the standings.  

The Saints clinched first place and homefield advantage in the Conference playoffs weeks ago so they will no doubt get a chance to rest some players before their playoff run.  The Skyhawks meanwhile won’t qualify for the postseason and their players will be playing to impress the coaching staff as preparation for next season has begun.

This is the only meeting of the season between these two teams.  The Saints are undefeated while the Skyhawks have lost five straight after winning their first two of the season.

PRAIRIE CONFERENCE

There shouldn’t be too many Thanksgiving pleasantries exchanged between these two teams as they battle in their regular season finale. 

The undefeated Hilltops have already clinched first place and homefield advantage so will no doubt give some of their starters a rest.  Earlier this season they shutout the Rifles in Winnipeg 49-0 forcing a mindboggling nine turnovers.  

The Rifles on the other hand are fighting for their playoff lives.  They need to beat the Hilltops and hope for the Calgary Colts to lose in order to get in.  If they do qualify, they will head right back to Saskatoon for a semi-final.  They will need to take care of the football against a highly skilled Hilltops defence.

It’s a battle for a home playoff date, with the winner hosting the other in a Prairie Conference semi-final. It’s the only meeting of the regular season between these two, who will also face each other next week in the playoffs. 

The Thunder had their two-game winning streak snapped last weekend at Saskatoon in the rain. They didn’t have QB1 Carter Moberg under centre and his status for this weekend is not known at this time. Ethan Hugg got the start and threw two interceptions.  

On the other hand, the Huskies snapped their two-game skid last weekend with a win at Winnipeg.  They are hoping to build off that victory when they head to Regina on Thanksgiving Sunday.

Edmonton Wildcats @ Calgary Colts – Sunday October 8, 1:00pm – Shouldice Field | WATCH HERE

It’s the back half of a home and home on Sunday when the Wildcats visit the Colts after picking up their first win of the year last week with a 43-36 victory.  It’s also a game with playoff implications as the regular season comes to a close in the Prairie Conference.
It’s simple for the Colts, win and you’re in. If the Wildcats win and the Winnipeg Rifles lose it would create a three-way tie for the final playoff spot. 

Last week the Wildcats scored 21 points in the third quarter only to have the Colts come back with 21 of their own in the fourth, but fell just short.  Both defences will need to be better on Sunday and the team that steps up should be victorious.
