Players of the Week - Week 12

By CJFL Media 10/07/2025, 9:30pm PDT

The best in BC and Ontario from this weekend

Both the BC and Ontario Conferences concluded their regular season schedule this past weekend and have selected their CJFL Players of the Week.

Offensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
QB Liam Kroeger – Okanagan Sun

The veteran pivot dismantled the opposition this past weekend, setting some new team records along the way.  He completed 36 passes, tying his own team record from earlier this season and that is second most in the BC Conference.  He threw for 429 yards and six touchdowns, becoming only the second player in Conference history to throw six majors twice in one season.

Ontario Conference
RB Zach Delwo – London Beefeaters

In a tune up for the post season, the Beefeaters relied on the ground game in a big road win over the Sooners this past weekend. Leading the ground assault was running back Zach Delwo as he pounded the Sooners’ defence for 145 yards on 19 carries.

Defensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
LB Andy Ofosuhene – Valley Huskers

The Huskers concluded their regular season this past weekend and linebacker Andy Ofosuhene played his final CJFL game and left with a memorable performance.  He collected a game high eight solo tackles, shared a sack and intercepted a pass returning it 10 yards. He will be missed by the Huskers going forward.

Ontario Conference
DL Samuel Williams – GTA Grizzlies

Despite the loss, Samuel Williams made sure that he left his mark on the 2025 season and he did so in a big way as he compiled three sacks, five tackles (four solo and one tackle for loss) as well as forcing one fumble which he also recovered for a total of 22 defensive points.

Special Teams Players of the Week

BC Conference
PR Andrew Brown – Prince George Kodiaks

Flipping the field is obviously important in every game, and this past weekend Andrew Brown worked that to perfection.  He returned seven kickoffs averaging just under 20 yards a return and added three punt returns averaging another 15 yards setting up his offensive teammates.

Ontario Conference
PR Jaiden Trudeau – Sault Ste. Marie Cougars

As he has flashed all season long, Trudeau was electrifying in the Sault’s return game as he contributed in a big way to a crucial win that paved the way for the Cougars' entry into the OFC playoffs.  Trudeau returned five punts for 140 yards, including one punt he returned 77 yards for a touchdown.  He also returned one kickoff for 21 yards.

The Ontario Conference regular season came to an end this weekend and the playoff picture became clear.

Sault Ste. Marie Cougars 56
Quinte Skyhawks 14

With the win the Cougars capture their first playoff berth in their inaugural season and will be the fourth seed heading into this weekend’s semifinal in Windsor.

Saturday, the Cougars took control almost immediately.  After stopping the Skyhawks on the game’s opening drive, the special teams went to work.  Jaiden Trudeau returned the punt 77-yards for a touchdown to set the tone and the Cougars cruised to a lopsided win.

Offensively quarterback Gabe Barkley threw for 169 yards and a touchdown to Afonso Kiala.  Receiver Marcus Williams also threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Kiala on a trick play to keep the Skyhawks defence guessing.   The Cougars offence tallied three touchdowns on the ground as Ethan Carchidi scored a pair and Sam Mustaspha had the other.

Even the defence got in on the scoring when Daikaden Gauthier intercepted a pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.   In all, the defence forced an eye-popping nine turnovers.

The Skyhawks struggled to move the ball on the offensive side. Their lone offensive touchdown came on a Jake Venditti 60-yard run in the fourth quarter with the game already out of reach.   Their defence scored their first touchdown in the second quarter on a Cameron Wright 29-yard pick six.

The Cougars (4-4) will head to St. Clair to meet the Saints (8-0) on Saturday afternoon for a semifinal.  With the loss the Skyhawks (3-5) season ends, and they begin the process to retool for next year.

London Beefeaters 52
Ottawa Sooners 7

The Beefeaters victory allows them to clinch the second seed in the Conference and a home playoff date, set for this coming weekend.

They blasted out of the gate scoring 23 points in the first quarter to set the tone, predominantly using the ground game. Zach Delwo was outstanding chewing up 145 yards on 19 carries. Once getting close to the endzone the Beefs saw touchdowns from Xavier Zatylny, Ethan Grant and Wes Schneider. Quarterback DJ Fonti only completed six passes but two of them were for touchdowns, finding Seth Raymer and Brandon Visouvath.

Defensively they held the Sooners to 29-net offensive yards and shut them out for three quarters. They forced four turnovers with Sam Fediya intercepting two passes, including a 40-yard pick-six.

The lone Sooners score was a 36-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Ayman Raheem in the fourth quarter.

This coming Saturday afternoon the Beefeaters (6-2) will host the Hamilton Hurricanes (6-2) in a semi-final with winner advancing to the Teddy Morris championship game.  The Sooners (1-7) will head back to the drawing board and look to improve heading in 2026.

Hamilton Hurricanes 46
GTA Grizzlies 6

The Hurricanes win their sixth game of the season and finish as the third seed in the Conference heading into the postseason this weekend.

They scored 21-first quarter points and had little trouble containing the Grizzlies the entire game.   Two quarterbacks combined for 302 yards and four touchdowns on just 13 completions as both Zach and Robbie Pereira each hauled in two touchdowns.

The defence not only held the Grizzlies in check all game, but defensive back Janal Williams also scored courtesy of a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown.

With the win, the Hurricanes (6-2) finish with an identical record to the London Beefeaters (6-2), but the Beefs hold the tiebreaker after winning their only meeting of the season.  Therefore, the Hurricanes will travel to London for Saturday’s playoff game.  The Grizzlies (0-8) season ends without a win.

The CJFL enters Week 12 of the regular season with the Ontario and BC Conferences wrapping up their schedules while the six teams in the Prairie Conference enjoy their final bye weekend.

In BC the games mean nothing in the standing with the four playoff teams and matchups already set.  However, in the Ontario it’s a different story with the St. Clair Saints the only team that has solidified a first-place finish.

SATURDAY

Ontario Conference

Quinte Skyhawks @ Sault Ste. Marie Cougars – Saturday October 4, 1:00pm – Superior Heights School | WATCH HERE

The recipe is simple in this game, win and you’re in. The Skyhawks and Cougars meet for the second time this season with identical records and the team that records the win, clinches the final playoff spot in the Ontario Conference.

In their first meeting of the season the Cougars blasted the Skyhawks 43-0 in mid-August using the ground game to control the tempo.  Running back Sam Mustaspha was terrific with 134 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns.  In all the Cougars galloped 271 yards and scored four majors on the ground.   Then on the defensive side they held the Skyhawks to 50 yards through the air.

Both teams are coming off a win and to set up this win or go home game.   Speaking of home, Sault Ste. Marie hasn’t been great to the Cougars this season with an 0-3 record on their home field.  The Skyhawks have one road win in three games away from Quinte.

London Beefeaters @ Ottawa Sooners – Saturday October 4, 7:00pm – Gee Gees Field | WATCH HERE

For the second and final time this season, the Beefeaters and Sooners will lock horns, this time in the nation’s capital.  In their first meeting in London, the Beefeaters played solid defence and scored a 19-6 win.   If they can find a victory this weekend, they will clinch the second seed and a home playoff date next weekend.  They come into this game facing some adversity after suffering their worse loss of the season and are looking to rebound.  They will meet a Sooners team with absolutely nothing to lose.  The Sooners will miss the postseason so play their final game on Saturday night.  It’s been a tough campaign this year with only one win and struggling to put points on the board.  They would like nothing more than to spoil the party for London and hand them a loss with their best game to date.

Langley Rams @ VI Raiders – Saturday October 4, 2:30pm – NDSS Field | WATCH HERE

Both the Raiders and Rams will play their regular season finale on Saturday going in different directions.  The Raiders are playoff bound, while the Rams are left wondering what went wrong this season.

It will be interesting to see how long the Raiders’ first-string players will stay in the ballgame knowing this game means nothing in the standings.  Regardless of the outcome, they will finish fourth and be on the road for the playoffs.  Meanwhile the Rams players are playing for roster spots next season.  They have just one point in the last six games and haven’t scored a single point in their last two getting outscored 156-0.  This will be the first-time the Rams have missed the playoffs since their first season in 1988.

Okanagan Sun @ Kamloops Broncos – Saturday October 4, 6:00pm – Hillside Stadium | WATCH HERE

The top team in the Conference is on the road for their final game of the regular season as the Sun visit the Broncos in a matchup that features the teams that bookend the standings.  In their first meeting at the Apple Bowl the Sun thumped the Broncos 70-3 and have been undefeated all season with the ability to score in all three facets of the game. Regardless of the outcome the Sun know they will host the VI Raiders in a semi-final game next weekend.

On the other side of the field the Broncos will be looking for any measure of success after a disappointing season.  Their offence has not been a factor with their highest scoring game being 14-points.  The coaching staff will be reevaluating their roster with each snap on Saturday and looking for any blocks to build upon for next year.

Prince George Kodiaks @ Valley Huskers – Saturday October 4, 7:00pm – Exhibition Field | WATCH HERE

The Kodiaks are in, the Huskers are not as both teams wrap up the regular season this weekend in Chilliwack.   In their only other meeting this year, three weeks ago, the teams finished in a 35-35 tie.  The Kodiaks are very hot coming in this final game recording points in five of their last six and know they will be on the road for their first ever playoff appearance next weekend.   They scored 74-points in their win last week, setting a new team record for points in a single game.  Overall, their offence averaged over 28 points a game led by quarterback Sawyer Thiessen.

The Huskers are playing for next year after their high hopes this season.  They have played better as of late but found it difficult to overcome the start of the season when they lost three straight.  They will look to end the season with a victory and head into the offseason on a positive note.

SUNDAY

Ontario Conference

Hamilton Hurricanes @ GTA Grizzlies – Sunday October 5, 1:00pm – David Suzuki School | WATCH HERE

It’s the final game of the Ontario Conference regular season and a big one for the Hurricanes.  By the time they kick off they will know what they are fighting for.  They have clinched a playoff spot however positioning is still a mystery.  If the London Beefeaters win on Saturday night in Ottawa, then the Hurricanes will finish as the third seed regardless of what they do against the Grizzlies. However, if the Beefeaters lose in Ottawa, then the Hurricanes will have a shot at clinching the second seed and a home playoff date with a win over the Grizzlies.  In the first meeting of the year between these two teams, the Hurricanes blew them out 50-0. They have won two straight coming into this weekend and are playing really good football.  They face a Grizzlies team that hasn’t won a game and has scored just 13 points all season.
