Mike Eurchuk of the Edmonton Huskies

The CJFL Ed Henick Meritorious Service Award has only been handed out 12 times in the past 25 seasons and hasn’t been since 2017.  This honour is saved for an individual that has dedicated a substantial portion of their life to junior football.  Previous honourees represent some of the most influential people responsible for making the CJFL what it is today.

Mike Eurchuk of the Edmonton Huskies is deserving of joining this elite class as he has been involved with junior football since the 1960’s.  He culminated the first portion of his involvement with the Huskies as the General Manager of the team in the mid-1960's.

Due to his involvement with Olympic wrestling at the same time, he took an extended leave of absence.  His involvement with wrestling led to numerous recognitions, including induction into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame. Mike also won the 1980 Canadian Amateur Sports Official of the Year and was chosen as Canada’s Wrestling Administrator of the Year for 1982.

After retiring from wrestling, Mike returned to his first love of football, re-joining the Huskies Board of Directors in 1995.   Since then, he has served stints as the Club’s President, Vice President and President of the Alumni Association.  He remains active on the Huskies’ Board and over the past few years has built the Alumni Association into a strong group.

Since 2001, Mike has also served as the Prairie Conference’s treasurer and has helped spear head numerous Conference initiatives, including playoff revenue sharing, neutral site referees for playoff games and travel subsidy programs.  He was awarded the CJFL Executive of the Year Award in 2013.

He is largely responsible for ensuring the Prairie Conference remains financially viable and he is a true, devoted supporter of the Canadian Junior Football League.

Congratulations Mike!
