Through wet and cool conditions the Langley Rams punched their ticket to the Canadian Bowl with a dominating win over the Hamilton Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams used a balanced attack offensively and shutdown defence to secure their third Canadian Bowl appearance in seven seasons.

Quarterback Duncan Little finished 20 of 32 for 292 yards and threw three touchdowns to Jevon Cottoy.  He also rushed for a major on six carries.  In all Cottoy hauled in nine passes for 180 yards and even had a one yard touchdown plunge.

Defensively the Rams held down the high powered Hurricanes offence allowing just 90 yards on the ground and 143 through the air.  They forced seven turnovers and collected six sacks.  Linebacker Anthony Blackwell made eight tackles and had a sack and Colten De Jong tallied five tackles and had a pair of sacks.  Charles Nwoye also had two sacks.

Perhaps the only negative for the Rams on Saturday the 19 flags directed their way for 193 yards, something they will need to clean up before the Canadian Bowl.

The Hurricanes found themselves shorthanded before even touching down in British Columbia.   All-Star running back Jayden Hyland and Ontario Conference Rookie of the Year receiver Keyshaun Jordan were scratched with injuries, then All-Star offensive lineman Kyle Maertens was injured during warm-up.   During their layover in Calgary receiver Colin O’Connor became extremely ill and was forced to a medical clinic where it was determined he had a severe case of kidney stones that had to be surgically removed.  Ontario Conference Coach of the Year Jason Hayes decided to stay with his senior player in Calgary and be by his side rather than leaving him alone.

Without four of their major weapons and their head coach the Hurricanes offence was slowed down by the Rams stifling defence.  All-Star quarterback Jake Marquette managed only six completions for 150 yards and was under pressure for the majority of the day.   He did rush for a touchdown as did running back Jevante Stanley.

Defensively Tyler Dekkers and Zachary Hoffner each had seven solo tackles.  Brayden Hill had six tackles and Tom Zarafonitis recovered a fumble.

The Rams will now meet the Saskatoon Hilltops on November 17th at SMF Field for the 2018 Canadian Bowl.  It’s the third time in seven seasons these two teams will match-up for the national championship.
