The Hilltops will host the 2018 Canadian Bowl after capturing their fifth straight Prairie Conference championship on Sunday beating the visiting Edmonton Huskies.

The offensive attack for Hilltops featured the ground game and an 18 point first quarter. Josh Ewanchyna was outstanding rushing 24 times for 163 yards and scored all three Hilltop touchdowns.   He also caught two passes for 33 yards.

Conference Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Jordan Walls completed 11 passes for 145 yards, but threw two interceptions.

The only other scoring came from the right leg of kicker David Solie.  He booted a pair off field goals, including his longest of 31 yards.

Where the Hilltops could use the ground attack to move the chains, the Huskies simply could not.   As a team they rushed for just 78 yards.  They used 10 different ball carriers led by Brandt Burzuk’s 48 yards on 17 rushes.  A big reason why the Huskies couldn’t run was the interior play from Garth Knittig who had a game high seven solo tackles. Meanwhile both Cody Peters and Jesse McNabb each had five tackles.

The Huskies quarterbacks felt a bit more pressure to perform since the ground game was in effective.   The combination of Brendan Guy and Jordan Lane completed 18 passes for 165 yards.

The only points the Huskies could muster was a pair of field goals from Cole Sabourin along with a single and a conceded safety.

Defensively Oshane Samuels and Justin Hodinsky each picked off a pass and Cole Lindberg had a team leading six solo tackles.

The Hilltops will now host the 2018 Canadian Bowl on Saturday November 17th at 1:00pm at SMF Field against the winner of the CJFL National Semi-Final game between the Hamilton Hurricanes and the Langley Rams.
