The Sun, Rams and Raiders each win

The Raiders clinched third place in the BC Conference on Saturday and used the ground game to near perfection.

Led by Rhett Williams the Raiders gained 295 yards on the ground.  Williams was incredible gathering 247 of those yards on 27 carries and scored a touchdown.  Quarterback Jacob Laberge also scored a major on the ground.

Through the air Laberge completed only seven passes, but one of them was a 78 yard touchdown strike to North Rainey.

Defensively the Raiders forced nine turnovers and Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty was simply outstanding.  He had three interceptions and forced fumble, plus blocked a kick.  Shawn Arabsky also picked off a pass and recovered a fumble.

The Huskers relied on the pass and the All-Star arm of Julian Wytinck.  He completed 21 passes for 330 yards and through a pair of touchdown passes.   Both Anthony Dyck and Brandon Poulin caught majors.    Remis Tshiovo hauled in five passes for a game high 137 yards.

On the defensive side the Huskers forced three interceptions and had two sacks. All-Star Dawson Davis had one of the interceptions and a game high seven tackles.

The Raiders (6-4) will travel to Langley to face the Rams (7-3) for Saturday’s semi-final while the Huskers (6-4) will visit the first place Okanagan Sun (7-2-1) for Sunday’s semi.

Kamloops Broncos 22

The Broncos nearly shocked the CJFL on Saturday night giving the Rams all they could handle.

Offensively the Rams were led by their passing attack.  Quarterback Duncan Lilttle was 21 of 30 for 248 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns.  Tristan Yanciw also played completing four passes including a touchdown.   Liam Stewart, Nick Agnoletto and Victor Belanger each caught a major.

On the defensive side the Rams forced four turnovers including interceptions from Anthony Blackwell and All-Star Kyle Clarot.  Isaiah Okoli had a pair of sacks.

Meanwhile the Broncos put up a great fight and rookie quarterback Reid Vankoughnett had his best game finishing 17 of 32 for 329 yards and threw a 45 yard touchdown pass to Gabe Saklofsky.  His favourite target however was Thijs Duineveld who caught five passes for 168 yards.    Vankoughnett also ran for a touchdown.

Defensively Andrew Baerg had a team high six tackles and Darby Kwan had a sack.

Saturday night the Rams (7-3) will host the VI Raiders (6-4) in a BC Conference semi-final while the Broncos (0-10) finish winless for the first time in franchise history.

Westshore Rebels 9

The Sun secured first place in the BC Conference on Sunday with a win over the Rebels with their back-up quarterback.

Matthew Mahler was 12 of 20 for 220 yards on Saturday and threw a 90 yard catch and run touchdown to Kelton Kouri.  On the ground Kouri also scored a touchdown on 12 carries and 53 yards.  He would finish with 153 all-purpose yards.

On the defensive side Conor Richard blocked his sixth kick of the season, tying a single season CJFL record.  TJ Bucel also blocked a kick.  The Sun collected six sacks as Ryan Marquardt and Austin Bowes each had a pair.

The Rebels offence sputtered gaining just 66 yards on the ground.    Quarterback Mason Brown was 13 of 23 through the air for 216 yards and threw a touchdown pass Byron MacKinnon.  In his final CJFL game D’Saun Greenaway had a game high six catches for 114 yards.

Defensively they tallied three sacks and Maleek Womack had an interception and a tackle.

On Sunday the Sun (7-2-1) will host the Valley Huskers (6-4) in a semi-final, while the Rebels (3-6-1) season comes to a close.
