The CJFL is proud to announce the Football Canada Players of the Week following Week 10 of the regular season.
Now FANS you can VOTE for your favourite to be named the CJFL. Polls close at 4:00pm PST/7:00pm EST on Wednesday.
Prairie Conference
RB Josh Ewanchyna – Saskatoon Hilltops
For the third consecutive week running Josh Ewanchyna wins this award and for good reason. He was a major factor in the Hilltops’ seventh win of the season with 22 carries for 187 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Ontario Conference
RB Jayden Hyland – Hamilton Hurricanes
As he has done all season Hyland capped the regular season with another impressive game. In a performance that likely solidified his position as the 2018 Ontario rushing leader, Hyland slashed his way through the Ottawa Sooners defence amassing 157 yards on only 15 carries and added 1 touchdown.
BC Conference
QB Mason Brown – Westshore Rebels
In their final home game Brown was outstanding completing 25 of 39 passes for 275 yards and threw three touchdown passes. He also caught a pass for eight yards and rushed seven times for 81 yards.
Defensive Players of the Week
Prairie Conference
DL Donovan Hillary – Winnipeg Rifles
The best player of the field for the Rifles on the weekend was Hillary. He was a force with 10 solo tackles along with forcing a fumble and recovering it for a touchdown scoring one of two majors by the Rifles in their final home game.
Ontario Conference
DB Dante Fornasiero - Windsor AKO Fratmen
In a crucial battle that determined home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs, the Windsor AKO Fratmen defence produced many stellar individual performances but Dante Fornasiero’s star shone the brightest as the visiting Fratmen produced a decisive victory in London. He recorded five tackles on the day but his biggest play was picking off a pass and returning it 22 yards for a touchdown.
BC Conference
DL Darby Kwan – Kamloops Broncos
Sunday afternoon the Broncos were outstanding on defence limiting the high powered Okanagan Sun offence to just 10 points and almost completed the upset of the year. Darby Kwan led the charge with seven solo tackles and had an assist.
Special Teams Players of the Week
Prairie Conference
R Ethan Douglas – Regina Thunder
He returned 10 punts for 111 yards on Sunday giving the visiting Thunder excellent field position in their major road win in Winnipeg. On the offensive side he also caught a game seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Ontario Conference
K Cole Crossett - Hamilton Hurricanes
The Hurricanes capped a perfect regular season by knocking off the visiting Ottawa Sooners at home. Having only joined the Hurricanes midway through the season, the strong legged Crossett kicked four field goals, the longest of which was from 39 yards out, added two singles on kicks through the end zone and went perfect on all three of his convert attempts in the victory. Crossett’s efforts accounted for 17 of the Hurricanes points.
BC Conference
R Brandon Poulin – Valley Huskers
What a game for the Huskers special teams returning a pair of kick-offs for touchdowns. Poulin returned a kick-off 96 yards for a major in the second quarter on Saturday giving the visitors a 10-7 lead. In all he had five kick returns for 150 yards and had the major.
