The best of the best from Week 9

The CJFL is proud to announce the Football Canada Players of the Week following Week 9 of the regular season.

Now FANS you can VOTE for your favourite to be named the CJFL Fans Choice Player of the Week.  Polls close at 4:00pm PST/7:00pm EST on Wednesday.  VOTE HERE.

Offensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
RB Josh Ewanchyna – Saskatoon Hilltops

The Hilltops clinched first place and home field advantage in the Prairie Conference after Sunday’s win over the Edmonton Huskies.  Their ground game dominated gaining 251 yards.  Running back Josh Ewanchyna gathered 201 of those yards on 27 carries and scored a touchdown.  It’s the second straight week Ewanchyna earns this award.

Ontario Conference
QB Colton Allen – Windsor AKO Fratmen

Playing only half the game for the Fratmen, Allen made the most of his time on the field.  He efficiently completed 11 of his 14 pass attempts for 176 yards and threw four touchdowns against the GTA Grizzlies.

BC Conference

RB Kelton Kouri – Okanagan Sun
The Sun took over sole possession of first place in the BC Conference with a huge road win over the VI Raiders.  Kelton Kouri played a major factor carrying the rock 17 times for 136 yards and also caught a seven yard touchdown pass.

Defensive Players of the Year

Prairie Conference
DB Keenan Onyebuchi – Winnipeg Rifles

In their third win of the season the Rifles forced six turnovers in their home victory over Calgary.  Keenan Onyebuchi was responsible for intercepting three passes; he added one tackle, had an assisted stop and forced a fumble.

Ontario Conference
LB Oscar Reddecop – London Beefeaters

He was a machine in a defensive battle on Saturday night as Oscar Reddecop had a game high 11 solo tackles and recovered a fumble as the Beefeaters swept the home and home with Ottawa.

BC Conference
LB Dawson Davis – Valley Huskers

He was seemingly all over the field in the Huskers fifth win of the season.  He tallied a game high eight solo tackles, had a sack and intercepted a pass.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
K Eric Maximuik – Regina Thunder

The Thunder won their third of the season on Sunday and the kicking game played an important role.  Eric Maximuik connected on two field goals and was 3-3 in converts.   His eight punts averaged 27.7 yards and he had four kick offs averaging 32 net yards.

Ontario Conference
R Jay Anyimadu - Hamilton Hurricanes

He had perhaps the greatest individual performance of the weekend acting as a jack of all trades for the first place Hurricanes.  Anyimadu returned two punts for 99 yards one of which was returned 58 yards for a touchdown.  In addition to his dynamic returns, he also hauled in a 27 yard pass for a touchdown and topped off his day intercepting a pass on defence while also batting away another one.

BC Conference
K Isaac Wegner – Okanagan Sun

For the second straight week and third time this season Isaac Wegner earns this award.  He connected on four field goals including a 44 yarder in the first place showdown with the VI Raiders.  He added five converts and punted 11 times averaging 33 yards a kick.
