The Sun, Huskers and Rams each win

VI Raiders 31

After the Raiders jumped out a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, the Sun stormed back with 27 points in the second frame and never looked back on route to sole possession of first place in the BC Conference.

Quarterback Matthew Mahler finished 11 of 26 for 183 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes, one to Kelton Kouri and the other to Adam Burton.  He also rushed for a touchdown.
Kouri led the way as well with 17 carries for a game high 136 yards on the ground.

Defensively the Sun gave their offence a short field for most of the afternoon.  They also got on the scoreboard twice with Nicholas Cross jumped on a bad snap in the end zone for a score and Tyler Going returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown.   The “D” also held the CJFL’s leading rusher Rhett Williams to 68 yards on 16 carries.

The Raiders offence revolved around quarterback Jacob Laberge who was 23 of 41 for 325 yards and threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers.  Mike West, Eli Nelms-Horton, Taylor Becker and Jared Braun each hauled in a major.

With the victory the Sun (5-2-1) take over first place in the BC Conference and will host the Kamloops Broncos (0-8) on Saturday while the Raiders (5-3) will visit the Langley Rams (5-3) in a pivotal game on Saturday afternoon.

Valley Huskers 23
Westshore Rebels 19

The Huskers rode a 17 point first half and added six more in the fourth quarter to seal the deal and win their fifth of the season.

Quarterback Julian Wytinck finished 12 of 27 for 244 yards as he helped move the football down the field using his main target Remis Tshiovo who caught seven of those 12 passes for 156 yards. They would then turn to the ground attack to get into the end zone.  Von Richardson finished with a pair of touchdowns on 20 carries and 91 yards.

Defensively they held the Rebels to just 78 yards on the ground.  They collected four sacks and forced six turnovers.  Desmond Jeanson made six tackles and blocked a kick.

Rebels quarterback Mason Brown was 17 of 36 for 212 yards and threw a touchdown to Cody Holmes.  Their only other touchdown was a Kaine Stevenson rushing major.

On Saturday the Huskers (5-3) will visit the Rebels (3-4-1) in the second half of a home and home.

Langley Rams 24
Kamloops Broncos 3

In their first game without Matt Blokker at the helm the Rams continued their hot play an extended their winning streak to four games.

The offence was led by quarterback Duncan Little who completed 23 of 32 for 277 yards and threw two touchdowns to Liam Stewart.  On the ground they tallied 118 yards led by Max Joseph’s 40 yards on eight carries.  Joe Carter rushed five times for 29 yards and had a touchdown.

On the defensive side the Rams collected three sacks and forced four turnovers.  Anthony Blackwell led the way with seven solo tackles.

The Broncos didn’t generate much offensively compiling 97 net yards.  Their lone points came from a 23 yard field goal by Bryce Couture.

This coming weekend the Rams (5-3) will host the VI Raiders (5-3) is a massive game, while the Broncos (0-8) will visit the Okanagan Sun (5-2-1).
