The Hilltops and Rifles win on the road

The Rifles won their second of the year despite only gaining 112 offensive yards on Saturday night in the rain. 

The Rifles used three different ways to score their three touchdowns.  Defensive lineman Davyn Turner returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown, Brendan Naujoks returned a punt 56 yards for a major and Mathe Mitayango scored a rushing touchdown.

Kicker Drenin Busch also booted a pair of field goals to add to the scoring.

The weather also affected the Wildcats offence gaining just 195 yards.  Their lone score came on the ground when Cody Olson got into the endzone in the fourth quarter.

Defensively they collected four sacks and Chopper Hippe tallied a game high six tackles.

Next week the Rifles (2-2) will travel back to Edmonton on Sunday to face the Huskies (3-1) while the Wildcats (1-3) will host the Calgary Colts (0-4) on Saturday.

It was all Hilltops on Saturday night opening up with a 39 point first quarter. In all they would out-gain the Colts offence 593-91.

Quarterback Jordan Walls finished 13 of 18 for 189 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns, while back-up Tyler Herman completed three passes, two of them for touchdowns.  Four different receivers caught a touchdown pass.

On the ground Josh Ewanchyna was outstanding gaining 155 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns.   Ben Abrook and Adam Ewanchyna also scored majors.

All seven points for the Colts came from kicker Julian Jenkins who connected on two field goals and recorded a single.

Next week the Hilltops (4-0) host the Regina Thunder (2-2) on Saturday night while the Colts (0-4) visit the Edmonton Wildcats (1-3).
