The very best from Week 6

The CJFL is proud to announce the Football Canada Players of the Week following Week 6 of the regular season.  Four of the six Prairie Conference teams enjoyed a bye week.

Now FANS you can VOTE for your favourite to be named the CJFL Fans Choice Player of the Week.  Polls close at 4:00pm PST/7:00pm EST on Wednesday.  VOTE HERE.

Offensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
WR Brandon Poulin – Valley Huskers

The Huskers continue to roll winning their fourth game of the season and a major reason was their passing attack.   Poulin enjoyed his best game of the season hauling in a game high seven passes for 156, averaging 22 yards a catch.  His longest reception went for 57 yards.

Prairie Conference
RB Brandt Burzuk – Edmonton Huskies

The Huskies used a balanced attack in a massive road win in Regina this past weekend.  Setting up their aerial assault was a potent ground game led by Burzuk who carried 19 times for 169 yards and scored a touchdown.

Ontario Conference
QB Jake Marquette – Hamilton Hurricanes

In another display of error free football Marquette systematically dismantled the Ottawa Sooners on the road.  Playing less than three quarters he completed 15 of 18 pass attempts for 300 yards and five touchdowns while continuing his season long streak of avoiding throwing any interceptions.

Defensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
DB Tyler Going – Okanagan Sun

He was seemingly all over the field making eight solo tackles, collecting two assists and knocked down a pass against a solid Langley Rams offence.

Prairie Conference
LB Carter Stusek – Regina Thunder

He was a one man wrecking crew for the Thunder last weekend recording a game high eight solo tackles and had an assist.  He also contributed on special teams with a tackle in a losing cause.

Ontario Conference
LB Dillon Caldwell – Niagara Regional Raiders

In a hard fought defensive struggle against the GTA Grizzlies Caldwell seemed to be everywhere in leading the Raiders to their first ever victory in three years.  He amassed an incredible 10.5 tackles to lead a very stingy Raiders defence in holding the Grizzlies to a paltry 64 yards of total offence.  He also forced and recovered a fumble.

Special Teams Players of the Week

BC Conference
R Jake Firlotte – Langley Rams

He had the most exciting play of the game on Saturday night in the Rams road victory at Okanagan, returning a punt 82 yards for a touchdown.  He amassed six returns for 117 yards giving his offence excellent field position.

Prairie Conference
LB Oshane Samuels – Edmonton Huskies

The special teams play of the Huskies frustrated the Thunder all game.  They were led by Samuels who collected three special teams tackles.  On the defensive side he tallied seven solo tackles.

Ontario Conference
K Johnny Rekiel – Hamilton Hurricanes

In the Hurricanes road victory over the Ottawa Sooners, Rekiel was perfect on all of his six convert attempts while connecting on his only field goal attempt from 25 yards out.
