Week 5 Prairie Conference Summary

The Hilltops, Thunder and Wildcats win

Regina Thunder 28
Edmonton Huskies 17

The offences exploded on Sunday as they combined for 972 yards of total offence, with the Huskies outgaining the Thunder 553-419.

The Thunder used a 20 point first half lead to pace their second straight victory at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton.  Quarterback Brock Sich completed 24 of 35 for 338 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns.  Lee Brown hauled in a major and Brayden Long caught a 28 yard touchdown pass and ran for one as well.  Brown made eight receptions for 144 yards.

Defensively the Thunder bent but didn’t break.  Davin Williamson had a game high nine tackles while Tyson Haubrich collected eight tackles, had a knockdown and recovered a fumble.

The Huskies offence couldn’t finish in the first half as quarterback Tommy Yanchuk finished 25 of 41 for 308 yards and threw two second half touchdown passes.  His favourite target was Sam Clayton who caught a game high 11 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, while Tanner Buchanan caught the other major.

Defensively the Huskies didn’t force a turnover, however Jassen Brown had a team high six tackles and the lone sack.

Next Sunday these two will meet again in the second half of the home and home as both are now 2-1.

Edmonton Wildcats 48
Calgary Colts 0

It was the first win of the season for the Wildcats and a dominating one at that.

Quarterback Justin Swedish was 11 of 21 for 221 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns.  Jacob Milhailides caught one and Jake Withrow hauled in a 34 yard touchdown.

On the ground Brayden Chilibeck carried 17 times for 101 yards and a score, while back-up quarterback Cody Olson had a pair of rushing touchdowns.

The Wildcats defence even got in on the scoring as Brady Kerr returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown.  As a unit they held the Colts to just 42 yards on the ground.

One of the lone bright spots for the Colts on Saturday was quarterback Cole Belway who completed 13 of 27 for 108 yards.

Next week both the Wildcats (1-2) and Colts (0-3) will enjoy their bye week.

Saskatoon Hilltops 38
Winnipeg Rifles 8

The Hilltops machine continued to roll on Sunday beating the Rifles at St. Vital Mustangs Field.  

Quarterback Jordan Walls led the offence again finishing 18 of 30 for 268 yards and threw two more touchdown passes.  David Solie and Tanner Rhode each caught a major and Jason Price recorded six receptions for a game high 121 yards.

On the ground the Hilltops saw touchdowns from Josh Ewanchyna and Ben Abrook.

The defence forced four turnovers and four sacks.  Adam Benkic had one of each while Cody Peters had a sack and a half.

The Rifles had a balanced offence when they got the chance, however didn’t find the endzone.  They had 181 yards through the air and 152 on the ground.  Quarterback Drenin Busch completed 16 of 27 passes and ran for 40 yards. He also connected on a 38 yards field goal. Austin Klein rushed for 66 yards on 14 carries.

Next week the Hilltops (3-0) and Rifles (1-2) will enjoy a bye week.
