VI Raiders 33
Westshore Rebels 7

The Raiders were able to take the crowd out of it early on jumping out to a 17-0 lead in the first half and didn’t take their foot off the gas.

Quarterback Jacob Laberge finished 17 of 32 for 347 yards and connected on three touchdowns.   Eli Nelms-Horton snagged a pair of touchdowns on three receptions and 155 yards.  Mike West also hauled in a major on five receptions and 45 yards.  Meanwhile Rhett Williams carried 16 times for 67 yards and had a score.

The Raiders defence gave the Rebels fits intercepting three passes and sacking the quarterback four times.  Todd Campbell had one of those sacks and a game high six solo tackles.

The Rebels didn’t figure out the Raiders defence until the fourth quarter when Khaliel James sprinted in for a touchdown.  In all he carried 21 times for 134 yards.

After the Labour Day bye these two teams will meet again, but this time in Nanaimo on Saturday September 8th.

Okanagan Sun 21
Langley Rams 13

It wasn’t the prettiest of games as these two teams combined for 14 turnovers, seven field goals and 35 penalties.

The Sun scored their lone touchdown when they needed it most in the fourth quarter as pivot Keith Zyla punched it in from a yard out.  Zyla who platooned as the starting quarterback from the past two seasons was move to safety this year.  However was thrust back into the starting role on Saturday night and finished six of 22 for 112 yards.

Their defence was the difference maker forcing 10 turnovers and six sacks.  Both Tyler Going and Dustin Magee each had two interceptions and Nicholas Dheilly tallied three sacks.  Going also had a fumble recovery.

The Rams offence struggled against the Sun defence.  Quarterback Duncan Little was 22 of 38 for 284 and threw a touchdown pass to Jevon Cottoy.  However he also threw five interceptions.   Their ground game was non-existent recording just 14 yards.

On the defensive side the Rams were just as good as the Sun defence.  They tallied two sacks and three players had interceptions; Kyle Clarot, JP Kalambay and Tato Ferreyro.  Meanwhile Anthony Blackwell led all tacklers with seven.

Following the BC Conference Labour Day bye the Sun (2-1-1) and Rams (1-3) will meet again, but this time in Kelowna.

Valley Huskers 38
Kamloops Broncos 17

Seemingly both teams were able to move the ball as they combined for 927 yards of total offence.

The Huskers predominately gained their yards through the air.  Quarterback Julian Whytinck finished 22 of 36 for an incredible 411 yards and threw three touchdowns.   Brandon Poulin caught two touchdown passes on six receptions and 123 yards.  Anthony Dyck on the other hand gathered a game high 159 yards on nine receptions and tallied a 56 yard touchdown.

On the ground Keegan Vicklund scored two more touchdowns on 10 carries and only 50 yards in all.

Defensively Jace Harden led the Huskers with five solo tackles and Dion Kelly had a pair of sacks.

The Broncos tried to stay tight but the passing of the Huskers wasn’t to be denied.  Broncos’ pivot Rylan Matters completed 17 of 29 passes for 248 yards.  Their offensive scores came on the ground from Landon Munk who recorded two touchdowns.  Andrew Pocrnic rushed 10 times for 127 yards.

Dylan Young led the defence with a game high eight tackles and picked off a pass.

Following the BC Conference Labour Day bye the Broncos (0-3) will host the Huskers (3-1) at Hillside Stadium.
