Most teams in sports across the world have one or two rivals.  Each season players, coaches and fans have just a bit more excitement as they circle their calendar for “that game”. Whether it’s a team in their own conference or province the excitement is heighten.

However the rivalry between the Huskies and Wildcats is on a new level.  The two teams not only compete on the field, but battle each other for players within their city limits off the field in recruiting.   They see each other in the mall, on the streets and at community events.  Unless you’re in it, on the surface the rivalry seems like any other, but it’s much more for the players, coaches and even the family members.

The Huskies are coming off a 66-0 victory in Calgary, while the Wildcats dropped a 19-3 decision in Winnipeg.  They will face each other on Saturday night at Clarke Park in the shadow of Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton for the first time this season.

Ryan Watters talks with both head coaches; Iain MacLean and Darcy Park to get their thoughts on this unique rivalry.
