It was the BC Conference Game of the Week and it didn’t disappoint as the hometown Raiders scored 28 points in the fourth quarter and came back to win.  The game was played in front of the Raiders alumni weekend.

The game was a tail of two halves with the Rams scoring 24 points before halftime before the Raiders turned the tables.

Quarterback Jacob Laberge caught fire in the fourth quarter and ended the game 21 of 30 for 334 yards and threw three touchdowns. He also rushed twice and scored two more touchdowns. His favourite target was Hugh Rainey who caught a game high 12 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns.  Eli Nelms-Horton caught the other major.  Mike West also had a big game with five receptions for 111 yards.

On the ground Rhett Williams carried the rock 20 times for 120 yards.

Defensively the Raiders forced three turnovers.  Gevhahn McNally-Hardistry picked off a pass while Matthew Cox recovered a fumble and Cory Fletcher led the way with five tackles.

The Rams offence was led by their quarterback Duncan Little who finished 21 of 34 for 308 yards and threw three touchdowns.   Jevon Cottoy caught two of those majors while Nick Agnoletto hauled in the other.  Running back Max Joseph ran in the other touchdown.

Defensively the Rams recorded five sacks from five different players and Jake Firlotte picked off a pass.

Next week the Raiders (2-1) visit their Island rival the Westshore Rebels (1-0-1) while the Rams (1-2) host the Okanagan Sun (1-1-1).

Valley Huskers 22
Okanagan Sun 18

For the first time in franchise history the Valley Huskers beat the Okanagan Sun on the field.  Back in 2013 the Huskers were awarded a win over the Sun due to an ineligible player.

The Huskers offence was led by quarterback Julian Whytinck as he finished 28 of 44 for 275 yards and connected with Anthony Dyck for a touchdown.    Dyck hauled in 10 passes for a game high 144 yards while Brandon Poulin caught 14 passes for 100 yards.  Whytinck also scored a touchdown with a one yard plunge.

On the defensive side the Huskers came up big when called upon.  Simon Winsnes had a monster game with a 50 yard pick six, recovered a fumble and made four tackles.  Meanwhile Dawson Davis had six tackles.  With the game winding down and the Sun pressing the Huskers defence stood tall to secure their second win of the season.

Without injured quarterback Jacob Loucks in the game, the Sun offence has sputtered.  Matthew Mahler finished 14 of 32 for 152 yards and struggled under the pressure in the few moments of the game missing some key targets.

The lone offensive touchdown for the Sun came from running back Jesse Amankwaa in the second quarter.

Their only other score came from special teams when Cody Thompson blocked a kick and Javen Kaechele picked it up and scampered 25 yards for the touchdown.  Jordan Rae collected a game high 11 tackles and had an interception.

Next week the first place Huskers (2-1) visit the Kamloops Broncos (0-2) while the Sun (1-1-1) visit the Langley Rams (1-2).

The Westshore Rebels – Kamloops Broncos game was cancelled due to poor air quality. The game will not be rescheduled.

Instead on September 15th when the Broncos visit the Rebels, all four points will be on the line, with a winner take all game.

Next week the Rebels (1-0-1) will host the VI Raiders (2-1) while the Broncos (0-2) will welcome the Valley Huskers (2-1).
