The Regina Thunder finished third last year in the Prairie Conference and upset the second seeded Edmonton Huskies in the semi-final.     Their playoff run ended a week later in Saskatoon as the Hilltops won the Prairie crown with a 36-24 victory.

The Thunder are hoping “lightning” will strike again this season with the Canadian Bowl hosted back in the Prairie Conference.  In 2013 the Thunder upset the Hilltops in the Conference final, then hosted and won the Canadian Bowl, dismantling the VI Raiders.

Head coach Scott MacAulay speaks with Ryan Watters following their exhibition game earlier this week as they prepare to host the Hilltops on Saturday evening.

Head Coach: Scott MacAulay (6th season)

2017 Result: finished 5-3, beat the Huskies in the Prairie Conference semi-final then fell to the Hilltops in the Conference final.

Starting QB: Brock Sich (1st season as a starter)

Key Departures: Sawyer Buettner, Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette, Tyson Haubrich

Expected Team Strength:  The defensive line has all six are players returning while four of their five offensive line starters are back, so the trenches are shaping up to be the Thunder’s strength this season.

2018 Schedule Quirk:  The Thunder will play their final two regular season games on the road in Winnipeg and Calgary on October 7th and 14th.  Their last home game is scheduled for September 30th.
