The Rams, Raiders win while the Sun and Rebels tie

In the dying seconds of the CJFL Game of the Week the Sun missed a short field goal resulting the game ending in a tie as both teams receive an important point in the BC Conference standings.

The Rebels trailed at the end of the third quarter, but scored eight points in the final frame.  Quarterback Mason Brown finished 15 of 26 for 203 yards and found Cody Holmes for his first touchdown of the season.    Kaine Stevenson caught three passes for a game high 81 yards.

Defensively the Rebels dominated holding the Sun passing game to just 48 yards.  They would also get on the scoreboard after Lowhya Lako picked up a fumble and rumbled 55 yards for a major.

The Sun offence sputtered on Saturday with their lone touchdown scored by quarterback Jacob Loucks on a two yard scramble in the first quarter.  Loucks would later leave the game due to an injury.

Running back Jesse Amankwaa carried the ball a game high 17 times for 83 yards.

The Sun defence kept them in the game combining for nine sacks. Nicholas Dheilly led the charge with four of them.

Next week the Sun (1-0-1) will travel to Chilliwack on Saturday to meet the Valley Huskers (1-1) while the Rebels (1-0-1) will also hit the road for a date with the Kamloops Broncos (0-2).

The Raiders tallied 361 yards of total offence in their first win of the season.   Running back Rhett Williams accounted for 107 of those yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Quarterback Jacob Laberge was solid completing 12 of 19 passes for 160 yards and hit Hugh Rainey for a pair of touchdowns.

The defence also got in on the scoring as Jeremie Cheng picked off a pass and returned it 15 yards for a major.  Todd Campbell had a team high four tackles.

The Broncos struggled finding a grove.  Rylan Matters made his first start and finished 11 of 27 for 130 yards.

Next week the Raiders (1-1) will host the Langley Rams (1-1) while the Broncos (0-2) will welcome the Westshore Rebels (1-0-1).

Valley Huskers 9

The Rams scored 19 points in the first half and didn’t look back recording their first win of the season.

Quarterback Duncan Little was outstanding finishing 25 of 39 for 310 yards and threw three touchdown passes to Jevon Cottoy.  In all, Cottoy hauled in a game high seven passes for 113 yards.  Running back Joe Carter also scored a touchdown on nine carries and 38 yards.

The Rams defence added to the scoring as well when Rahlm Richards picked off a pass and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown.  As a group they would force five turnovers.

Despite scoring just nine points, the Huskers tallied 358 yards of total offence led by quarterback Julian Wytinck and his 15 completions for 275 yards and a touchdown.  He would find Anthony Dyck for a major, its Dyck’s fourth touchdown reception of the season.

Dawson Davis led the Huskers defence with a game high 10 tackles while James Moar recorded the lone sack.

Next week the Rams (1-1) will visit the VI Raiders (1-1) as head coach Matt Blokker returns to Nanaimo. Meanwhile the Huskers (1-1) will host the Okanagan Sun (1-0-1) for their third straight home game.
