The Sun, Rebels and Rams win in Week 8

The Rebels kept their winning streak alive with a comeback win over their Island rivals on Saturday night using an eight point fourth quarter.

With time running down the Rebels turned to their best offensive weapon and Trey Campbell scored the game winning touchdown.  In all he finished with 137 yards on 23 carries.  Meanwhile quarterback Scott Borden was 14 of 27 for 225 yards and threw a touchdown to D’Saun Greenaway.   The first year Rebel had six receptions for 122 yards.

Defensively the Rebels forced five turnovers and had two sacks.  Maleek Wormack had two of those interceptions including one in the dying seconds to secure their sixth straight win.

The Raiders on the other hand had their own running back have a great game. Rhett Williams rushed 16 times for 150 yards and had a touchdown.  Quarterback Jake Laberge had 11 completions and hit Brycen Mayoh for his CJFL leading seventh touchdown catch.

On the defensive side the Raiders forced two turnovers and had a pair of sacks.

Next week the Rebels (6-1) will visit the Langley Rams (4-3) on Saturday while the Raiders (3-3-1) will host the Valley Huskers (0-7).

Kamloops Broncos 21

It was an aerial onslaught by the Rams on Saturday afternoon compiling 339 yards through the air with three different receivers catch over 100 yards each.  Quarterback Rylan Matters had his best game with 16 completions and a pair of touchdowns.  His favourite receiver was Khalik Johnson who made eight receptions for 106 yards and one of those scores.  Nick Agnoletto also had a major on three receptions and Joel Klassen made three catches for 105 yards including an 88 yarder.

On the ground Nathan Lund was stellar with 124 yards on 14 carries and had two touchdowns.

Defensively the Rams collected three sacks and Denis Olivera had an interception.

The Broncos were able to move the ball on the Rams defence to the tune of 426 offensive yards.  Quarterback Colby Henkel was 18 of 31 for 268 yards.  His favourite target was Brody Bernier who made seven receptions for 125 yards.

The running attack was able to tally three touchdowns.   Max Joseph scored a pair on five carries and Trent Price had the other.

The Rams (4-3) will now host the Westshore Rebels (6-1) on Saturday afternoon and the Broncos (1-6) will welcome the Okanagan Sun (6-0-1) that evening.

Valley Huskers 3

The Sun started very quickly scoring 24 points in the first quarter setting the tone for the rest of the game.  

Quarterback Keith Zyla finished 22 of 31 for 318 yards and threw four touchdown passes.  Rashaun Simonise made promising return to the club making six receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns.  Kyler Mosley also made six receptions for 141 yards and a major.  Jesse Falconer caught the other touchdown pass.

The Sun defence also scored on a Hayward Beasley 50 yard fumble recovery.  They collected two sacks and forced four other turnovers.

The Huskers meanwhile saw a good game from quarterback Noah Falconer.  He threw 10 completions for 206 yards.  RJ Begg made three of those receptions for 97 yards.

Their lone points came off the foot of Hayden Barton who hit a 27 yard field goal.

Next weekend the Sun (6-0-1) will stay on the road and visit the Kamloops Broncos (1-6) and the Huskers (0-7) will travel to face the VI Raiders (3-3-1) on Saturday afternoon.
