Three lopsided scores in Week 5 as the BC Conference now heads to the Labour Day bye week

Okanagan Sun 45
VI Raiders 11

The Okanagan Sun defence controlled the tempo and pace of their highly anticipated match up with the VI Raiders on Saturday.   They held the home side to just four points in the first half while the offence erupted for 21 points.

The Sun defence forced four turnovers including a pair of interceptions, both returned for touchdowns from Conor Richard and Aldrich Berrios.  Linebacker Eli Haynes collected a game high nine tackles and forced a fumble.  As a unit they recorded four sacks and held the Raiders run game to just 30 yards.

Quarterback Nick Wenman was 11 of 20 for 205 yards and threw two touchdowns to Liam Crane.

The Sun special teams also played an important role containing the Raiders potent return game and saw returner Jayen Kaechele return a Raiders kick-off 105 yards for a touchdown.

The lone Raiders touchdown was a Jake Laberge pass to Brycen Mayoh.

Brody Taylor had a team high eight tackles and collected a sack.
The Sun raise their record to 5-0 while the Raiders fall to 3-2 as both teams enter the Labour Day bye week.

Langley Rams 31
Kamloops Broncos 19

The Langley Rams finally got moving offensively on Saturday scoring in every quarter on route to a very important road win in Kamloops.

Quarterback Rylan Matters played his best game as a Ram completing 11 of 17 for 214 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns passes.   One of those majors was caught by Nathan Lund who was simply outstanding all night long.  In all he caught six passes for 109 yards and also rushed eight times for 82 yards and a score.

Defensively Nick Westad had six tackles and a sack.  In total the Rams had three sacks on the night.

The Broncos on the other hand lost their fourth straight and had a difficult time moving the ball against the Rams.  Quarterback Colby Henkel was 13 of 26 for 146 yards and threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Nick Hykawy.

The defence also got on the board for the Broncos when Conner Thornewell intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a pick six.

The Rams (2-3) enter the bye snapping their losing skid while the Broncos (1-4) will look for some answers in their off week.

Westshore Rebels 51
Valley Huskers 13

Call it a well balanced offensive attack or stifling defence, but the Westshore Rebels dominated their home game on Saturday afternoon.

Offensively they racked up 548 total yards led by Trey Campbell on the ground with his 15 carries and 128 yards with a touchdown.  Through the air quarterback Scott Bordon completed only nine passes for 202 yards and threw four touchdowns, three of which to Birhanu Yikna.  As a matter of fact Yitna’s three touchdowns were the only passes he caught for 119 yards.  Austin Lindbrow caught the other major.

Defensively the Rebels didn’t allow a positive yard on the ground as the Huskers finished with -1 yards rushing.

That said the Huskers lone touchdown was a one yard touchdown run by quarterback Noah Falconer.  Through the air he completed nine passes for 152 yards.

As both teams enter the Labour Day bye, they are going in different directions; the Rebels are 4-1 while the Huskers drop to 0-5.
