DB Dylan Niedermaier graduates after five years with the Colts

This past season the Calgary Colts had one of the stingiest defenses in the CJFL.  Thanks to a star studded secondary it was very difficult for an offence to throw the ball.

In 2016 the Colts had three defensive backs named to the Conference All-Star team and two of them were named a CJFL All-Canadian including fifth year senior Dylan Niedermaier.

Now a graduate of the Colts Niedermaier is considered one of the biggest losses for their club heading into the 2017 campaign.  He collected 24 tackles, 13 assists, had a block, a knockdown, a fumble recovery and three interceptions this past year.

He describes his highlight of the year, “beating the Huskies at home in the playoffs. The game had such a dramatic finish and the feeling from winning that game is something I'll never forget.”  The Colts came from behind to beat the Huskies 11-10 in the Conference semi-final, punching their ticket to their third straight Conference title game.

Graduating after five years of junior football, Niedermaier has a lifetime of memories and experiences to take away.  He was part of the 8-0 Colts in 2012 and then a 0-8 finish just a year later before bouncing back into the playoffs and the PFC title game in 2014.  However he describes his most memorable moment, “This entire season was a highlight for me. Even though it didn't end the way we wanted it to, it was the most fun I have ever had playing football. No one outside of our team expected us to start the season like we did and all around it was a special year.”

Now that his junior career is over he says he’ll miss the team more than anything, “We spend so much time together during the season we truly become a family.”

The most important lesson he takes away from the Colts and the CJFL is, “to be successful you have to have two things; discipline and effort. If you can remain disciplined and put in the work you will be rewarded with success. #1Beat.”

At just 22 years of age, Niedermaier has his eyes set on the future.  “I’m going to finish my university degree this semester and then find somewhere to play for next year!”  With his resume, finding a place to play shouldn’t be an issue.  He concludes his junior career with 82 tackles and eight interceptions.
