The best of the best from the past weekend

The Canadian Junior Football League is proud to present the Players of the Week in Week 13 of the season.  With the BC Conference in the playoffs and the PFC playing their regular season finales.  Plus for the first time this season, there is a tie in the PFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Fans can now VOTE for the CJFL Fans Choice Top Performer of the Week HERE.  The polls will close on Thursday at 12:00pm PST.

Offensive Players of the Week

BCFC
RB Jamel Lyles – Westshore Rebels

He’s been the focal point of the Rebels offence all season and in last weekend’s BC Conference semi-final it was no different.   The CJFL rushing champ carried 25 times for 198 yards and scored the game winning touchdown with 23 seconds to go, propelling the Rebels into their first BC Conference Cullen Cup title game since 2004.

PFC
WR Darian Grymaloski – Edmonton Huskies

Saturday night the Huskies offence exploded for 51 points against the PFC’s stingiest defence and Grymaloski was a major reason.  He caught eight passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns.  His performance helped the Huskies clinch third place in the PFC.

Defensive Players of the Week

BCFC
DB Raquille Cespedes – Okanagan Sun

They say defences win championships and the Sun used defence to set the tone in the first quarter of Sunday’s BC Conference semi-final.  The “D” forced three turnovers in the first 15 minutes, including two interceptions by Cespedes leading to seven points.

PFC
LB Jassen Brown – Edmonton Huskies

The Huskies defence frustrated the PFC’s top offence on Saturday night, holding them to 35 points, 16 of which came after the score was out of hand.  Brown led the Huskies with 10 tackles and had a knockdown.

DB Jayden Dalke – Edmonton Wildcats
The lone bright spot for the Wildcats defence on Sunday was Dalke who collected an impressive three interceptions to compliment his four solo tackles and one assisted stop.

Special Teams Players of the Week

BCFC
K Kealey Heintz – Okanagan Sun

He was the overtime hero for the Sun who punched their ticket to their third straight BC Conference Cullen Cup title game.  In the overtime session Heintz booted a 34 yard field goal to send the Apple Bowl into a frenzy.  In all he was 4-4 in field goals, 2-2 in converts and averaged 23.8 yards a punt.

PFC
K Luca Cupelli – Edmonton Huskies

He booted three field goals and six converts in the Huskies blowout win over the Calgary Colts on Saturday night.  He also averaged 29 yards on his six punts and 53 yards on his eight kick-offs.
