It was a record setting day in Westshore as Rebels’ running back Jamel Lyles etched his name as one of the best ever in CJFL history.

Lyles becomes the BCFC’s single season rushing champ finishing the regular season with 1604 yards.  The total surpasses Matt Medwick’s 1592 yards gathered in 2000 as a member of the Chilliwack (Valley) Huskers.

Not only did Lyles surpass Medwick, by also a pair of current CFL players in Andrew Harris (Blue Bombers) and former Rebel Greg Morris (Roughriders) on route to the new record.

On Saturday night he carried the ball 21 times for 158 yards to set the record.  He also finished with an incredible 17 touchdowns, 15 of those on the ground, which is third most in BCFC history.

His 1604 yards this season is fourth most in CJFL history.  Tristan Jones of the 2006 Edmonton Wildcats holds the record with 1903 yards in a single season.

Lyles and the Rebels will host the VI Raiders on Saturday October 15 in a BC Conference semi-final.  The winner will punch their ticket to the Cullen Cup title game part of the Canadian Bowl Championship Series.
