The Rebels, Rams and Broncos each win

The Westshore Rebels snapped the Okanagan Sun 24 game regular season winning streak and slid into a first place tie with their six point win.

Rebels quarterback Ashton MacKinnon was simply outstanding completing 15 of 28 for 262 yards and threw a 71 yard touchdown pass to Nathaniel Pinto who finished with 149 yards on four receptions.  MacKinnon was also stellar on the ground with 10 carries for 85 yards.  Jamel Lyles rushed for a pair of touchdowns.

The Rebels scored 24 second half points while the defence held the previous undefeated Sun to 13 points.  Brandon Gandire had an interception while Matt Pastro had five tackles and one of four sacks.

The Sun offence was good but held trouble finishing drives.  Quarterback Foster Martens was 14 of 20 for 193 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Lliam Wishart.

Defensively the Sun added three interceptions to their CJFL leading total as Beck Fullerton had a pair.

Saturday the Rebels (6-1) will visit the VI Raiders (3-4) in the Island Rivalry game while the Sun (6-1) make CJFL history when they host the Saskatoon Hilltops (4-1) in an Interconference game.

The Rams jumped out to an 18-0 lead at halftime and the Raiders couldn’t recover.  The Rams offence was led by new quarterback Tommy Robertson and his 242 yards through the air.  He completed 17 passes including a touchdown pass.  Receiver Khalik Johnson made a game high six receptions for 105 yards.  Ryan MacDonald and Seye Akinsanmi each caught a touchdown pass.

Defensively the Rams tallied NINE sacks led by the Adam Marchetti who had three and Shalheem Charles-Brown had a pair.  Isaiah Stewart had an interception and one of the sacks.

The Raiders passing attacked recorded 235 yards behind the 16 completions from Jacob Laberge.  He also threw a pair of touchdown passes to Trevor Pelland.

Defensive back Cole Virtanen was great with an interception, a fumble recovery and four tackles.   Josh Paisley also picked off a pass and Matthew Cox had seven solo tackles.

The Rams (5-2) will travel to face the Kamloops Broncos (1-6) on Saturday night while the Raiders (3-4) host the Island Rivalry game against the Westshore Rebels (6-1).

Valley Huskers 23

The Broncos scored a touchdown with 53 seconds to go in the fourth quarter and hung on for their first win of the season.  Garrett Kryzanowski caught the winning touchdown pass, his only catch of the game from 13 yards out.  Quarterback Colby Henkel completed 21 of 37 for 231 yards and threw four touchdown passes, two of them to Brody Bernier.

Defensively Kryzanowski recovered a fumble and Jordan Angove intercepted in CJFL leading seventh pass.  Oso Okojie had two tackles and a sack and a half.

The Huskers scored all 23 of their points in the first half.  Quarterback Noah Falconer was 15 of 39 for 185 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Mike West.  He also rushed four times and scored a major.

On the defensive side Jason Ghag returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown and Brenden Atkinson had a pair of sacks.

Next Saturday the Huskers (0-7) will make history hosting the first ever CJFL Interconference game when they host the Winnipeg Rifles (1-3) at 1:00pm. That night the Broncos (1-6) will host the Langley Rams (5-2).
