The Sun, Rams and Raiders all win in Week 8

The BCFC Rivalry Week is in the books as the Okanagan Sun, VI Raiders and Langley all won to maintain a very exciting playoff race.

RAIDERS 35 - REBELS 16

The weekend opened up with a battle on the Island as the Raiders hosted the Westshore Rebels in their 23rd meeting.

It was the Raiders aerial attack that would sink the Rebels 35-16.

Quarterback Liam O’Brien had his best game of the year finishing 17 of 20 for 337 yards and threw five touchdown passes.  Arthur Fabbro had a monster game catching six passes for 156 yards and three of those touchdown passes.  Dustin Rodriguez caught a game high seven passes for 148 yards and a major.  Dustin Hamm also caught a touchdown pass.

Defensively the Raiders held the Rebels to just 27 yards on the ground.  Thomas Novak collected a game high seven tackles and both Dexter Shea and Nigel Henry had five tackles each.

The Raiders are now 23-0 against their Island rivalry, sweeping the seasonal series this year.

Next Saturday the Raiders (5-3) will travel to face the Langley Rams (5-3) in a battle for second place and the inside track to a home playoff date.

The Westshore Rebels were without their main threat, quarterback Ashton MacKinnon.

Mr. Everything, Hunter Lake was inserted in the pivot position and struggled completing nine of 20 passes for 53 yards.  Not only did the Rebels miss their quarterback, but also their top receiver, as Lake is the back-up QB.

Lake did run 10 times, and scored both touchdowns, the Rebels could only rush for a total of 27 yards.

On the defence the Rebels were led by four sacks.  Jorge Monzon-Yarwood, Jordan Goertzen, Dusean Le Blanc and Cohen Sassaman each had one.  Goertzen recorded four tackles.

Next Saturday afternoon the Rebels (2-6) will host the first place Okanagan Sun (8-0) at 3:00pm.

RAMS 53 - HUSKERS 7

The Langley Rams and Valley Huskers played for the 27th time on Saturday night with the Rams completely dominated in a 53-7 victory, allowing just 58 yards of total Huskers offence.

The Rams offence compiled 602 yards led by the ground attack.  Jacob Patko carried a game high nine times for 110 yards and scored a touchdown.  Ryan MacDonald and quarterback Dylan Tucker also scored majors on the ground.

Through the air Tucker finished 11 of 20 for 276 yards and threw three more touchdown passes.  He found Khalik Johnson four times for 77 yards and a score along with Seye Akinsanmi and  Devoum Hallums for touchdowns.

The Rams defence was stellar, allowing just 58 total yards and held the Huskers without a first down in the second half.  Both Nathan Carrol and Denis Olivera intercepted a pass and Kyle Sagmoen collected the lone sack.

On Saturday the Rams (5-3) will host the VI Raiders (5-3) in a battle for second place and a home playoff date.

The Valley Huskers were frustrated all day long as the Rams completely dominated.

Quarterback Noah Falconer completed just six passes for 44 yards and the ground game gathered 20 yards as Jackson Ryan carried four times.

The Huskers lone touchdown came in the third quarter when Ryan Beaubien returned a kick-off 104 yards for a major.
Defensively the shorthanded Huskers were led by Conner Smith’s five tackles and Cody Lawlor’s interception.

The Huskers (0-8) will travel Kamloops on Saturday night for a date with the Broncos (4-4).

The Sun (8-0) will travel to Westshore for the first time since 2013 to face the Rebels  (2-6) at 3:00pm on Saturday.
The Kamloops Broncos offence was slowed by the Conference’s top defence, collecting 306 yards.
