One of the most impressive story lines in the first half of the BCFC season has been the offensive outpouring by the Kamloops Broncos.  They have tallied 251 points through the first six games and are on pace to score 351 points, which would be the most in franchise history.

A major reason for the outpouring is the dynamic receiving duo of Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa.  Both players are in their 22 year old season and sit #1 and #2 in receptions and yardage across the entire Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL)* coming out of the BCFC bye week.

Yachison, who is practicing with the BC Lions during the week and returning to the Broncos for the weekend, has caught a League leading 42 passes for 658 yards and had a League best 11 touchdowns.  Csincsa on the other hand has caught 37 balls for a league high 675 yards and three touchdowns.

If both players stay on track with these totals through the final four games of the regular season they will become the most productive 1-2 receivers in BCFC history.  Yachison is on track to make 70 receptions which would be a BCFC record and third all-time in the CJFL.  He is on pace to record 1096 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Meanwhile Csincsa is on track to make 61 receptions, which would tie him for second most in the BCFC and 1123 yards and five touchdowns.

Combined the duo would have 131 receptions, 2219 yards and 20 touchdowns.  These numbers would make the next best all-time BCFC duo look mediocre.  Back in 1995 Brian Remming and Brad Coutts of the Surrey Rams combined for 108 receptions and 1679 yards.

The Broncos schedule is not an easy one down the stretch.  They will face the Okanagan Sun secondary twice, the Langley Rams speedy defence and the improving Valley Huskers.

If the Broncos offensive line can continue to give quarterback Steve Schuweiler time, he will find his dynamic duo.  Schuweiler himself is having an impressive year with 114 completions for a BCFC high 1752 yards and 16 touchdown passes, 14 of which to his top two receivers.

The BCFC is no stranger to see great receiver duos.  Here are some of the best all-time:

1994 – Surrey Rams – Brad Coutts (46 rec – 818 yards), Brian Remming (44 rec – 811 yards) Combined 90 rec – 1629 yards – These two finished 1-2 in final stats in receiving yards and receptions

1995 – Surrey Rams – Brian Remming (55 rec – 866 yards), Brad Coutts (53 rec – 813 yards) Combined 108 rec – 1679 yards – These two finished 2-3 in the final receiving stats

2000 – Okanagan Sun – Aaron David (53-804), Adam Eckert (51-924) – Combined 104-1728 – These two finished 1-2 in the final receiving stats for pass receiving yards

2007 – Victoria Rebels – Blaine Kruger (61-992), Chris Schaalo (39-996) – Combined 100-1988 – These two finished 1-2 in the final stats for most pass receiving yards

2008 – Okanagan Sun – Matt Scheurwater (57-1117), Dan Turek (30-684) – Combined 87-1801

2009 – Okanagan Sun – Dan Turek (45-914), Matt Scheurwater (45-725) – Combined 90-1639

2010 – V.I. Raiders – Mike Schaper (60-1179), Whitman Tomusiak (40-704) – Combined 100-1883. These two finished 1-2 in the final stats for receiving yards. Also took 3rd place as well as Andrew Smith was (48-696) – All three combined 148-2579

2012 – V.I. Raiders – Whitman Tomusiak (37-919), Mike Schaper (37-728) – Combined 74-1647

All eyes will be on Yachison and Csincsa in the final four games to see if they can continue to put up record breaking numbers as the Broncos fight for their first ever home playoff date.

Their next test will be in Langley on Saturday night to face the Rams at McLeod Stadium at 7:00pm.
