The Sun, Broncos and Raiders win in Week 6

An exciting Week 6 in the BCFC as the Okanagan Sun, Kamloops Broncos and VI Raiders all claimed a victory heading into the Labour Day bye week.

BRONCOS 37 - REBELS 36

After a relatively slow first half on Saturday afternoon in Westshore, the second half was the BCFC’s most exciting half of football as the Kamloops Broncos held onto a 37-36 win over the Rebels.  Both teams combined for 52 points in the second half.

The Broncos offence tallied 393 total yards and 21 points in the final quarter.  Quarterback Steve Schuweiler finished 24 of 34 for 235 yards and threw his Conference leading 16th touchdown of the season, hitting Derek Yachison, who scored his Conference leading 11th major.  Devin Csincsa caught 10 balls for 94 yards to lead his club.

Jacob Palmarin and the Broncos running attack was solid.  He had a game high 17 carries for 129 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns.   Schuweiler got into the ground game as well, scoring a major on six carries.

The special teams got into the act as well, when Austin Semeniuk took a kick-off 79 yards to the house.

On the defensive side the Broncos forced just two turnovers, one on downs and Shaquille Lawson jumped on a fumble.   Julio Makambo recorded a sack, while Tevin McCarty and Tracker Robinson shared one.  Braden Van Koughnett led the Broncos with five solo tackles.

The Broncos head into the bye week 4-2 and will have two weeks to prepare for the Langley Rams (3-3), a team they lost to in Week 2 in Kamloops.

The Westshore Rebels scored 29 points in the second half and tallied 426 yards of total offence but came up just one point short of a game victory.

Quarterback Ashton MacKinnon was simply outstanding, completing 21 of 27 passes for 310 yards and threw three touchdowns passes.  MacKinnon leads the CJFL with 116 completions.  Both Eric Williams and Talyn Davies caught six passes each while Williams, Hunter Lake and Joe Barkhouse caught TD passes.

MacKinnon also rushed five times and scored a touchdown.  Jordan Worth led the club with eight rushes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

The Rebels defence forced four Broncos turnovers was Barkhouse picked off a pass and Tyler Leader and James Bradley recovered fumbles.  The “D” also forced a turnover on downs.  Bradley, Kevin Gabriel and Jordan Bosse each tallied five tackles.  Bradley and Gabriel each had a sack.

Following next week’s bye the Rebels (1-5) will travel to face the Valley Huskers (0-6) in Chilliwack.

RAIDERS 53 - HUSKERS 0

The VI Raiders clobbered the Valley Huskers 53-0 behind 627 yards of total offence and a 21 point first quarter.

Quarterback Liam O’Brien had his best game finishing 23 of 30 for 405 yards with five touchdown passes finding eight different receivers.  Dustin Rodriguez hauled in six passes for a game high 177 yards and a major, while Taylor Flavel caught seven passes for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Dustin Hamm, Nathan Berg and Arthur Fabbro also caught touchdown passes.

Berg also led the run game with eight carries for 88 yards, while O’Brien rushed five times for 64 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders “D” allowed just 174 total offence yards and created a pair of interceptions.    Both Dexter Shea and Quinton Bowles each had a sack while Adam McDonald and Cole Virtanen each had picks.

Following the Labour Day bye the Raiders (4-2) will visit the Okanagan Sun (6-0) on Sunday September 13th.

The Valley Huskers struggled offensively managing just 86 yards on the ground and 93 through the air in their lone visit to Caledonia Park.

Quarterback Noah Falconer was 6 of 17 for 93 yards and threw a pair of interceptions.  His top target was Jess Deering who caught three passes for 49 yards.

On the ground Jackson Ryan carried the rock 15 times for 74 yards.

Defensively the D-line showed their speed recording five sacks.  Travis Dietrich collected three of them, while Raphael Olivares had two.  Jason Ghag intercepted a pass and Travis Mcstravic had a game high eight tackles.

The Huskers (0-6) head into the bye week, then host the Westshore Rebels (1-5) on September 12th.

SUN 52 - RAMS 10

After a rainout on Saturday the Langley Rams hosted the Okanagan Sun on Sunday afternoon, with the visitors sweeping the seasonal series blowing out the Rams 52-10.

The Sun scored 37 points in the second half, on route to their sixth win of the season behind 339 yards of total offence.
Quarterback Josiah Joseph played the first half completing 11 of 18 for 130 yards and threw a touchdown to Shai Ross. 

The second half belonged to Cam Bedore, coming off the bench completing 9 of 11 for 162 and threw four touchdown passes.

Five different receivers caught passes, Kyle Patchell leading the way with seven catches and a touchdown.  Ross finished with two touchdowns on four receptions, while Kyle Kawamoto and Lerone Robinson also hauled in majors.

Defensively the Sun allowed just 39 yards on the ground and Brennan Van Nistelrooy was all over the field.  He intercepted his Conference leading fifth pass and blocked a punt which JP Kalambay picked up for a touchdown.  Beck Fullerton also intercepted a pass and Tinaye Muza recovered a fumble.  Keagan Hughes led the club with five tackles and Jonas Gering recorded a sack.

The Sun (6-0) enter the bye week in first place and will prepare to host the VI Raiders (4-2) on Sunday September 13th at the Apple Bowl.

The Langley Rams offence never really got rolling on Sunday.  Quarterback Dylan Tucker finished 12 of 22 for 146 yards and threw two interceptions.    His main target was Bobby Pospischil who caught seven passes for 86 yards.

The lone touchdown the Rams scored was on defence.    Sack master Brock Gowanlock recorded his CJFL leading 10th sack.  In the process he jarred the ball from Joseph’s hand, pick it up and rumbled 40 yards for a touchdown.

The Rams “D” held the Sun to just 59 yards on the ground.  Ben Sharpe led the club with six tackles and had a pair of knockdowns.   Marcus Brown recorded two sacks and had a fumble recovery while Saeed Hosain Ali also had a sack.

Heading into the bye week the Rams sit at 3-3 and will prepare for a visit from the Kamloops Broncos (4-2) on Saturday September 12th.
