It was a home team sweep in Week 5 of the BCFC season as the Sun, Broncos and Rams each won, forcing a three way tie for second place.

BRONCOS 39 - RAIDERS 32

The Game of the Week, most certainly lived up the hype in Kamloops as the Broncos scored their first ever win over the VI Raiders 39-32 in wild game.

These two clubs played in the second half of a home and home and again it was a tail of two halves. Like the previous week the Broncos owned the first half, leading 24-7 at halftime, only to see the Raiders almost complete another unbelievable second half comeback.

The Broncos offence tallied 618 total yards in a well balanced attack.  Quarterback Steve Schuweiler finished 17 of 29 for 328 yards and threw three touchdown passes.  The dynamic duo to Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa led the charge.  Yachison caught seven passes for 126 yards and a pair of majors, while Csincsa hauled in five passes for 152 yards and a touchdown.

The ground game was lights out for the Broncos, in particular the BCFC’s leading rusher Jacob Palmarin.  The veteran set a new Broncos record with 20 carries for 260 yards and scored two majors, including an 83 yarder.

The Broncos defence bent in the second half, but didn’t break.  Derek Trager and Dane Douglas led the club with five solo tackles each.  Shaquille Lawson and Kurtis Mutschmann each had a sack.

The win is the first for the Broncos over the Raiders in team history.  These two teams split the seasonal series, but the Raiders do hold the tiebreaker, beating the Broncos by nine points in Week 4.

Next Saturday the Broncos (3-2) hit the road (and the water) and make a visit to Westshore to play the  Rebels (1-4).

The VI Raiders fall for the first time on the road this season, despite gaining 372 yards of total offence and a 25 point second half.

The Raiders and quarterback Liam O’Brien caught fire in the second half, as the All-Canadian pivot finished 15 of 24 for 246 yards and threw a touchdown to Taylor Flavel.

O’Brien also scored a pair of majors with his legs on nine rushes.

On the ground the Raiders were led by Nathan Berg, who tried to keep pace with Palmarin.  He collected 121 yards on 14 carries.

The Raiders special teams got in on the act as well.  Tristan Muir returned a kick-off 95 yards for a touchdown, the first of his career.

Defensively Eric Wood blocked a kick and Bryce Wallace and Isaish John-Lawrence recovered fumbles.  Quinton Bowles had an outstanding game with a Conference high nine solo tackles, while James Smith collected the lone sack.

The Raiders (3-2) will head home next weekend and host the Valley Huskers (0-5) at 4:00pm on Saturday.

SUN 66 - HUSKERS 3

The Okanagan Sun remained undefeated this season with a blowout 66-3 victory over the Valley Huskers.

The offence recorded 618 total yards, while the defence continues to shine, holding the visitors to just 98 yards of total offence.

The Sun scored two touchdowns 10 seconds apart in the first quarter and never looked back.  Josiah Joseph completed 15 of 18 passes for 238 yards and threw three touchdowns.

Back-up Keith Zyla finished 2 of 6 for 105 yards and completed his first BCFC touchdown pass, finding Terrance Williams from 57 yards out.  It was Williams’ first BCFC touchdown as well.  Kyle Patchell two of Joseph’s touchdown passes, while Pierre-Luc Lord caught the other one.

The ground attack saw seven ball carriers combining for 281 yards.  Dillon Fortune, Abdi-Nasir Adbi and Braden Mann each recorded majors.

Both the Sun special teams and defence scored a touchdown as well.  Raquille Cespedes returned an interception 48 yards for a pick six, while Tyler Geisler recovered a fumble on a kick-off and rumbled 17 yards in for a major.

For the fifth straight game the Sun defence didn’t allow a running back to gain 100 yards, holding the Huskers to 71 yards.  Jonas Gering led the club with four tackles and Brennan Van Nistelrooy tallied his Conference leading fourth interception.

The Sun (5-0) will travel to Langley to face the Rams (3-2) on Saturday night in the featured game.

The Valley Huskers struggled against the Sun recording just one first down in the first half and six by the end of the game.

Quarterback Noah Falconer was 9 of 26 for 63 yards and threw three interceptions.  His favourite target was Cody Vinish caught a game high seven passes for 37 yards.

The Huskers defence was on the field for the majority of the night. Travis Dietrich was outstanding with a game high seven tackles and two sacks.  Gurtaj Bhangu intercepted a pass.
On Saturday afternoon the Huskers (0-5) will travel to the Island to face the Raiders (3-2) at 4:00pm.

RAMS 42 - REBELS 9

The Langley Ram won their third game of the year with a convincing 42-9 victory over the visiting Westshore Rebels behind 438 yards of total offence.

Receiver Bobby Pospischil had his best game of his junior career.  He caught three pass for 159 yards and a touchdown, ran twice for 16 yards and even threw a touchdown pass of 71 yards to Nathan Lund on an extremely athletic play breaking tackles and throwing on the run.

Quarterback Dylan Tucker was good on 8 of 14 passes for226 yards and threw a pair of touchdown strikes; one to Pospischil and the other to Dallas Yassinsky.  Tucker also ran for a major, as did Jacob Patko and Lund.

The Rams “D” allowed just 75 yards on the ground and forced seven turnovers.  John Beckerleg, Denis Olivera and Alex Agnoletto each intercepted a pass, while Beckerleg and Baltej Dhanoya jumped on fumbles.  The BCFC leading sack master Brock Gowanlock got his ninth of the season while Agnoleto, Nick Wetad, Shalheem Charles-Brown and Bashru Sise-Odaa each had a solo sack.

Saturday night the Rams (3-2) will look for a little payback as they host the first place Okanagan Sun (5-0) at McLeod Stadium at 7:00pm.

Despite the loss the Westshore Rebels did see another strong passing attack from quarterback Ashton MacKinnon who completed 19 of 37 for 271 yards, but threw three interceptions.  Back-up Talyn Davies completed three passes, including the lone touchdown to Joe Barkhouse, who caught a game high six passes for 108 yards.

Defensively the Rebels were led by Brody Uddenberg and his game high six tackles.  Jordan Goertzen had a sack and Kolton Henderson picked off a pass.

The Rebels (1-4) will host the high flying Kamloops Broncos (3-2) on Saturday afternoon.
