The Sun, Broncos and Rams each win

Following Week 3 of the BCFC season there is a log jam in the standings with the Okanagan Sun still undefeated and three teams at 2-1.

SUN 27 - RAIDERS 3

In Nanaimo on Saturday afternoon the Sun kept their undefeated record in tack with a 27-3 victory over the VI Raiders thanks to a dominating defensive showcase.

The Sun “D” held the home side to just 122 yards of net office, including just 35 on the ground and collected a team record 10 sacks.  The mark also ties a BCFC record held by the 1990 Surrey Rams   Ryley Butler collected three of those sacks, while Lucas Machado had a pair.  Jonas Gering, Layne Hull and Justin Gabriel each had one and Dalton Dietrich, Hayden Hamilton, Gering and Conner Novak each shared a sack.

The secondary was busy as well, Jamie Turek had an interception while Brennan Van Nistelrooy recorded a fumble.  Cord Delinte and Hull each had three tackles.

Offensively the Sun were solid gaining 396 net yards.  Quarterback Cam Bedore was 11 of 21 for 145 yards and threw a touchdown.  Josiah Joseph finished 5 of 8 for 99 yards.  Kyle Kawamoto had four catches for a game high 105 yards, while Kyle Patchell had a game high five receptions for 89 yards and the lone touchdown.

On the ground the Sun recorded 153 yards, led by Kory Nagata’s 10 carries and 54 yards.

Kicker Thomas Huber finished Sun drives connecting on five of six field goals recording 16 of the 27 points scored.

The Sun (3-0) will host the Langley Rams (2-1) in a rematch of last season’s BCFC title game on Saturday night at 7:00pm at the Apple Bowl.

The VI Raiders taste defeat for the first time this season despite the return of All-Canadian quarterback Liam O’Brien who finished 14 of 23 for 93 yards.
Seven different receivers caught passes, Trevor Pelland collecting a team high 29 yards on a pair of receptions.

Last week’s Offensive Player of the Week, running back Nathan Berg didn’t run the ball once as the Raiders collected just 35 yards on the ground.
Defensively the Raiders were led by Isaish John-Lawrence had his game high nine tackles.  Josh Paisley had seven stops while Nigel Henry intercepted a pass.  The Raiders gathered four sacks as Dexter Shea, Adam McDonald, Keatan Botel and Cashton Wilson each had one.

The Raiders (2-1) will host the Kamloops Broncos (2-1) on Saturday at 4:00pm.

BRONCOS 60 - REBELS 11

Speaking of the Broncos they won their second game of the year, blasting the Westshore Rebels 60-11 behind 575 yards of total offence.

For the first time this season the Broncos run game outgained the passing game totaling 332 yards.  Jacob Palmarin ran 12 times for 193 yards and set a new team record scoring five touchdowns.  Aaron Morran chipped in with 57 yards on eight carries.

Quarterback Steve Schuweiler completed his 300th career pass on a 7 of 14 performance for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Conner Whitelaw was 4 of 5 for 114 yards and a score.  Devin Csincsa caught three balls for 101 yards to lead the club.  Derek Yachison hauled in four more passes and a touchdown giving him 137 career receptions.  He is now sixth on the all-time BCFC list.  Broden Romanovitch and Brody Bernier each caught majors.

The Broncos defence created three turnovers as Zach Bosch intercepted two passes and Michael Ochoa had one.  Both Braden Van Koughnet and Ryan Fries each had a sack.

On Saturday afternoon the Broncos (2-1) hit the road to meet the Raiders (2-1) in a great game.

The Westshore Rebels lose their third straight, but had a balanced offensive attack.  

Quarterback Ashton MacKinnon continues to lead the Conference in pass attempts finishing 19 of 41 for 272 yards, but threw three interceptions.  His main target was Jordan Worth who hauled in seven passes for 112 yards.  Darcy Chernett made five catches for 70 yards.

MacKinnon scored the lone Rebels touchdown, using his legs to scamper eight times for 73 yards.

On the defensive side of things Tyler Leader made a game high four tackles and a sack, while Cody Wist intercepted a pass.     Cohan Sassaman also had a sack.

The Rebels (0-3) host the Valley Huskers (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.

RAMS 52 - HUSKERS 0

The Langley Rams collected their second win of the campaign and Head Coach Jeff Alamolhoda’s 20th career victory after a 52-0 shutout of the Valley Huskers.

The Rams run game was dominating collecting 336 yards on the ground.  Nathan Lund had an outstanding game galloping for 145 yards on seven carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns.   Devin Logan rushed six time for 73 yards and a score, while Jacob Patko also rushed for a major.

Quarterback Dylan Tucker threw for 151 yards on six completions and a pair of touchdowns.   Bobby Pospischil caught four balls for 96 yards and a major and Seye Akinsanmi also caught a touchdown pass.

The Rams defence held the Huskers to nine yards on the ground and got on the scoreboard as well.  Jesse Cervas recovered a fumble and rumbled 22 yards for a touchdown.  Defensive lineman Brock Gowanlock recorded two more sacks, giving him eight through the first three games of the season.  Shaiheem Charles-Brown also had a pair of sacks while Adam Marchetti and Nick Westad each had one.

This weekend the Rams (2-1) will travel to the Okanagan for a date with the Sun (3-0) in a rematch of the 2014 BCFC Cullen Cup championship. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm.

The Valley Huskers are still looking for their first win of the season after getting shutout for the second straight week.  As a matter of fact the Huskers haven’t score a point since the third quarter of Week 1.

Quarterback Noah Falconer finished 16 of 33 for 196 yards.  His favourite target was Blake Draper who caught seven passes for 80 yards, while Jesse Deering hauled in six passes for 81 yards.

Defensively Travis Dietrich and Connor Smith each had four tackles.

The Huskers (0-3) will travel to the Island to face the Rebels (0-3) on Saturday afternoon.
