Week 1 of the BCFC season is in the books as the Langley Rams, Okanagan Sun and Kamloops Broncos claim victory and move to 1-0.

The Game of the Week was in Langley as the Rams hosted the VI Raiders in a rematch of the 2013 Cullen Cup.  The Rams used a 17 point second quarter to lead them to a 44-36 win.

New Rams quarterback Dylan Tucker finished 13 of 20 for 223 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes.  His favourite target was Tore Corrado who caught seven passes for 122 yards and a score, while Malcolm Williams caught the other TD pass from five yards out.

On the ground Ryan MacDonald carried eight times for 51 yards, while Nathan Lund rushed five times for 18 yards.

The Rams special teams got in on the act as well, John Beckerleg returned a kick-off 90 yards for a major and kicker Steve Thomas connected on three field goals.

Defensively the Rams gave up 306 yards through the air, but they did score two touchdowns.  Beckerleg picked off a pass and returned it 84 yards for a score, while Steven Martinez recovered a fumble and took it back 70 yards for a touchdown.

Alex Agnoletto and Ethan Schulz each had a sack and five tackles to lead the club.  The Rams compiled five sacks and three takeaways.

The Rams (1-0) will host the Okanagan Sun (1-0) on Saturday night.

The new coaching era began for the Vancouver Island Raiders and it appeared their offense didn’t miss a beat.  The Raiders outgained the Rams 336-273 in total yards, striking for 306 through the air.

New quarterback Liam O’Brien finished 24 of 37 and threw one TD pass.  His favourite receiver was Marshall Cook who tied a BCFC record for most receptions in a single game with 14.  He ties four other players in Conference history.  He also caught the lone touchdown pass and 208 yards.  Dustin Rodriguez hauled in four passes for 69 yards.

Nathan Berg rushed for three touchdowns, all on short yardage.  He carried 14 times for just 28 yards.

On the defense side of the ball, Dexter Shea led the club with four tackles and Dylan Chapdelaine picked off a pass for the lone turnover.   Chapdelaine and Quinton Bowles each had a sack.

Raiders (0-1) will stay on the road and face the Westshore Rebels (0-1) on Saturday night.

The Okanagan Sun opened the season in Chilliwack on Saturday night and beat the hometown Valley Huskers 41-7 behind 401 yards of total offense.

Running back Alex Bradley led the charge with 13 carries on 121 yards and scored on a 19 yard touchdown scamper.   Back-up quarterback Josiah Joseph ran three times and scored two majors.

He finished five of nine for 95 yards, while starter Cam Bedore was four of 13 for 80 yards and a major, hitting Zach Regert for a 34 yard strike.  Eight different receivers caught passes and Cole Lindsay was the only player to have two catches.

Defensively the Sun forced four turnovers, all interceptions.  Robbie Yochim had two picks, including one he returned 75 yards for a major.  Beck Fullerton and Jeff Mock had the other interceptions.   Lucas Machado and Justin Gabriel each had a sack, while Brennan Van Nistelrooy blocked a 16 yard field goal attempt.

The Sun (1-0) will stay on the road and play in Langley (1-0) on Saturday night.

The Valley Huskers did show some fight trailing just 10-0 at halftime.  They compiled 212 yards of total offense.  Quarterback Dylan LaPrairie finished 16 of 29 for 211 yards and threw a 51 yard touchdown pass to Tyron Ledingham.   The lengthy receiver hauled in a game high six passes for 116 yards.

The Huskers “D” did force three turnovers as Sharif Ali, Jessie Smith and Brody Slagman each recovered a fumble.  Chris Hemmelgarn led the club with his five tackles.  Jeffery Hayden recorded the lone Huskers sack.

Saturday night the Huskers (0-1) stay at home and will face the Kamloops Broncos (1-0) at 7:00pm.

Behind 475 yards of total offense the Kamloops Broncos showed some firepower hammering the Westshore Rebels 38-9 on Saturday night at Hillside Stadium.   Their 475 yards was the most gained by any team in Week 1.

Quarterback Steve Schuweiler finished 12 of 29 for 305 yards and threw three TD passes.  Randy Uhl caught two balls for 121 yards, including tying a BCFC record for a 106 yard touchdown reception.  He ties a 40 year old record established by Frank Sacilotto of the Renfrew Trojans in 1974.

Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa each hauled in four passes and a touchdown.

The Broncos also had the run game clicking as Aaron Morran galloped 13 times for 114 yards and a score.

Defensively the Broncos forced four turnovers as Sean Gregg, Ben Hoffman and Derek Trager each intercepted passes and Nolan Ott recovered a fumble.  Linebacker Mike Ochoa compiled a game high eight tackles.   Curtis Dingwall recorded the lone sack of the game.

The Broncos (1-0) will play their first road game on Saturday night when they visit the Valley Huskers (0-1) at 7:00pm.

The Westshore Rebels scored just nine points but did show some positives, gaining 275 yards of total offense.

Receiver Nathan Leader had a game high six receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Rodinsky hauled in four balls for 48 yards.

Quarterback Hunter Lake finished 11 of 30 for 157 yards and threw the lone touchdown pass.

The Rebels defense actually opened the scoring with a safety in the second quarter.  They also forced three turnovers as Niko Ceska picked off a pass and Cohan Sassaman recovered two fumbles.  Jordan Bosse made four solo tackles.

The Rebels (1-0) will host their island rivals the Vancouver Island Raiders (0-1) on Saturday night, kick-off set for 7:00pm.
