Derek Mann was a standout CJFL quarterback for the Okanagan Sun from 2006-2009.  He is second all-time in the Sun history books with 379 completions and 6,260 yards (Al Walls 412-6,748).

Mann has continued his football career overseas for the past three seasons.  This year is his second in Oslo and the Norwegian football league and he is the only full fledge Canadian.  There are two other players on another team have Canadian-Norwegian dual citizenship.

His first season overseas was in Norway in 2012, winning the National Championship. Then last year Mann was in Rostock Germany.  Here in 2014, he’s back with the Oslo Vikings as the starting pivot and is coaching the U17 team as well.

His Vikings are battling for a playoff berth after a loss last weekend, despite Mann completing 27 of 38 for 351 yards and four touchdowns.  This Sunday they will be at home to face the Nidaros (Tronheim) Domers in front of an expected crowd of 500-1000 fans.  The winner gets the fourth seed in the post season.  The last time these two teams met, Mann and the Vikings scored a 42-28 win.

Mann has also found his coaching passion begin overseas.  He is the quarterback/receivers coach of the U17 team in Oslo, also called the Vikings.  Following his own game on Sunday with the Domers, his U17 team will play for the National Championship against their cross town rivals, the Valerenga Trolls.

The Sun and the rest of the BCFC open the regular season on Saturday July 26th.
