The best from championship weekend

The CJFL is pleased to announce the Players of the Week following the National Semi-Final and the Prairie Conference title game.

Offensive Players of the Week

National Semi-Final
RB Gerren Hardisty – Okanagan Sun

Offence was hard to come by for the Sun against a very talented St. Clair Saints team.  Hardisty earned 71 very difficult yards on 18 carries usually needing to break a tackle or carry a tackler with him for every inch he got.  He also made one reception for 12 yards.

Prairie Conference
QB Griffin Sander – Saskatoon Hilltops

What a performance from the Hilltops backup quarter.  After thrust into duty in the second quarter of the championship game and throwing an interception, he settled in and led his team to the title.  Down by 15 points late in the fourth quarter, Sander came back in and quickly found his touch.  He would lead his team back from the brink of elimination by throwing a touchdown pass, and a two-point conversion with 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter to force the game into overtime.  In the extra session he remained calm, cool and collective, throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to win the game punching their ticket to the Canadian Bowl.  He finished completing 17 of 26 for 206 yards and the two majors.

Defensive Players of the Game

National Semi-Final
DL Jarevon Williams – Okanagan Sun

He got stronger as the game went on and put together an impressive defensive game willing his team to victory with his play.  Down 19-0 in the third quarter, he picked up a fumble and returned it __ yards for a touchdown which completely changed the path of the game.  He finished with three knockdowns, but he was constantly putting pressure on the Saints backfield throwing off their timing.

Prairie Conference
LB Isaac Michayluk – Saskatoon Hilltops

He was the best defender on the field in the Prairie Conference champioship game coming up to stop the potent Thunder running attack.  Michayluk made a game high solo tackles and added two assists in helping the Hilltops earn the right to host the Canadian Bowl.

Special Teams Players of the Game

National Semi-FInal
KR Jordayne Falconer – Okanagan Sun

The always dangerous returner Jordayne Falconer returned a punt 73-yards in the third quarter to give the Sun a nine-point lead in the National Semi-Final.  That return completely took the air out of the Saints sails and helped the Sun to win at the Apple Bowl. In all, he returned six kicks, averaging 22 yards a return giving his offensive teammates great field position.

Prairie Conference
DB Jackson Ashman – Regina Thunder

He played an important role for the Thunder on kick coverage and returning kicks.  He made two key special teams tackles, recovered a fumble on a muffed punt return and returned one kick off himself for 20 yards.
