The best performances from last weekend

The CJFL in conjunction with the three Conferences is pleased to announce the Players of the Week following an exciting weekend of playoff football and regular season finales.

Offensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
OL Regina Thunder

The offensive line for the Regina Thunder this past weekend etched their name into the CJFL Record Book after blocking their way to an eye-popping 632 yards of rushing on Thanksgiving Sunday. The combination of Caleb Barajas, Tristan Rapchalk, James Lucio, Nolan Finn and Ethan Kreulzer helped their running backs to a CJFL single game rushing record, smashing the old mark of 588 yards set by the Edmonton Huskies in 2002.  Barajas added to the record production numbers with an 11-yard offensive lineman rushing touchdown!

Ontario Conference
QB Kayrus Sam – Hamilton Hurricanes

Turning in his best performance of the year, the Hamilton QB was the X factor in the Hurricanes’ exciting overtime upset of the Beefeaters on the road in London. Sam completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 318 yards and two touchdowns.  When his receivers were covered or when protection broke down Sam scrambled five times for 69 yards with a long of 29 yards.

BC Conference
RB Carter Williams – Westshore Rebels

The Rebels running back saved his best individual performance of the season for his team’s semifinal playoff game this past weekend.  Williams rushed for 146 of his team’s 178 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries.

Defensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
LB Cohen McCluskey – Winnipeg Rifles

The Rifles clinched the third seed in the Prairie Conference with a lopsided road win on Sunday with the defence not allowing a point in the final three quarters.  Cohen McCluskey seemed to be in on every tackle recording 9.5 tackles, one of which was for a loss and knocked down a pass.

Ontario Conference
DL Jaylin Burnett – St. Clair Saints

Showing why he was the OFC’s most outstanding defensive player in 2025; Jaylin Burnett was a defensive force for the Saints in their semifinal win against the Sault College Cougars.  Burnett compiled 9 solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss along with 2.5 quarterback sacks for a very impressive 28.5 defensive points.

BC Conference
DL Jarveon Williams – Okanagan Sun

As a group the Sun defence didn’t give up much during their semifinal win this past weekend and one of the main reasons was the pressure put on by pass rusher Jarveon Williams. He was outstanding making two tackles, had a knockdown and a pair of sacks on the stats page, but also was continuously putting pressure on the Raiders offensive line to throw off their timing.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
LS Colton Zimmer – Saskatoon Hilltops

It was cold and wet in Saskatoon on Sunday but that didn’t seem to bother the Hilltops long snapper Colton Zimmer who was perfect with snaps in those awful conditions.  He also added 3.5 tackles on specials and recovered a fumble on a missed field goal return.

Ontario Conference
K/P Gabriel Canabrava – Hamilton Hurricanes

Coming up clutch and showing why he is an OFC All-Star, Gabriel Canabrava was a major factor in the Hurricanes’ overtime win over the London Beefeaters as his field goal with no time on the clock sent the game into overtime and then he provided the winning point in overtime to punch Hamilton’s ticket into the OFC final.  Canabrava connected on 3 of 4 field goal attempts with his only miss being an intentional kick into the end zone for the game winning rouge.  He also was effective in the punt game as he averaged 36.5 yards on his 10 punts.

BC Conference
KR Jordayne Falconer – Okanagan Sun

As the old adage goes, “speed kills,” and Jordayne Falconer proved that once again this past weekend.  In a rain-soaked game, Falconer was outstanding returning eight kicks on Saturday, broke one for a 94-yard punt return touchdown and averaged over 23 yards a return.
