The best individual performances from this past weekend

Following Week 10 of the season the CJFL and it’s three Conferences have announced the Players of the Week.

Offensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
QB Matthew Guenette – St. Clair Saints

In only one half of work, the veteran quarterback was virtually perfect as he completed 12 of his 15 passes for 160 yards and five touchdowns as the Saints throttled the visiting Grizzlies.  Guenette threw touchdown passes to five different receivers as he spread the wealth among all of his teammates. He also scrambled once for an additional 26 yards before sending the hometown crowd home early.

Prairie Conference
REC Jarome Penner – Winnipeg Rifles

Penner had himself a day against a very solid Thunder defence.  He was the main target for the Rifles offensive push making 15 receptions, second most in a Prairie Conference game and puts him into a tie for second most in CJFL history.  With those 15 receptions, he added 221 receiving yards, and accounted for two touchdowns, one a pass reception, the other was a 10-yard run for a major.

BC Conference
QB Liam Kroeger – Okanagan Sun

The veteran quarterback was unstoppable this past weekend leading his Sun to their ninth victory of the campaign.  He finished hie night early completing 18 of 20 passes for 366 yards and six touchdowns.  With his legs he scampered for a 12-yard touchdown ran.  Incredibly he accounted for seven touchdowns on Saturday night.

Defensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
LB Clay Ritschard – London Beefeaters

In a game that proved to be much closer than most would have expected, Ritschard did his best to ensure a victory as the Beefeaters celebrated 50 years of football before a large crowd featuring Beefeaters alumni.  Ritschard was an absolute beast as he compiled six tackles while adding an impressive three sacks for a total of 25 defensive points.

Prairie Conference
DB Quinn Feodoroff – Calgary Colts

Despite the loss on Sunday Colts’ defensive back Quinn Feodoroff was a major factor in the secondary. He was a turnover machine with two interceptions and a recovered a fumble.  He added seven solo tackles and three assisted stops to turn in one of the most complete defensive efforts this season.

DB Raiden Mastin – Valley Huskers

He set the tone very early with a 40-yard pick-six on the Broncos opening drive guiding his team to their third win of the season.  Mastin also made five solo tackles, had a quarterback sack and knockdown one pass to lead his defensive unit.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
PK Gabriel Canabrava – Hamilton Hurricanes

In a big home victory that locked up a playoff spot for the Hurricanes, Canabrava continued his strong season as he was perfect on all of his kicks nailing all three of his field goal attempts with his longest coming from 40 yards out and going 6-6 on all of his converts for a total of 15 points.  He also averaged 56.7 yards on his kickoffs.

Prairie Conference
KR Jackson Ashman – Regina Thunder

It was quite the start for the Thunder on Sunday afternoon in Winnipeg as Jackson Ashman started the game with a BANG, returned the opening kick-off 102 yards for a touchdown.  He returned one other kick-off, collecting a game average of 61.5 yards a return.

BC Conference
PR Jordayne Falconer – Okanagan Sun

The Sun special teams were dynamic this past weekend led by returner Jordayne Falconer.  He returned two punts, both for touchdowns averaging 77.5 yards, his longest a 79-yard return in the first quarter.  He also returned one kick-off 11 yards, increasing his return yards to 166 for the game.
