Week 8 in the BC Conference sees three convincing wins with teams starting to look towards the playoff picture.

Okanagan Sun 60
Prince George Kodiaks 6

The Sun passing game exploded on Saturday night in Prince George setting several new team records in the process in their lopsided win.

Two quarterbacks combined to toss a new team record of 538 passing yards, eclipsing the old mark of 481 yards in 2009.   Starter Liam Kroeger completed 30 passes, setting a new team record, third all-time in the BC Conference. The old mark of 27 was set in 1984. He and backup Marcus Christos also combined for seven touchdown passes, tying a team record which was set in 2023.

Receivers Sam Melanson, Seth Famakinde and Jasiah Haliburton each caught two majors with Jordayne Falconer added the other.
Kicker Liam Attwood nailed three field goals setting a new BC Conference record for most field goals made in a career with 71 with three games remaining in the regular season.

Defensively the Sun held the Kodiaks to 221 yards and forced three turnovers.   JaQuintis Summers collected two more sacks and Jarveson Williams added another.  Phil Palmarin recorded the lone interception.

The Kodiaks only touchdown came in the dying seconds of the game on a 39-yard pass competition to Myron Brown.
Next week the Sun (7-0) will host the Westshore Rebels (6-1) in a battle for first place, and the Kodiaks (4-3) welcome the Valley Huskers (2-4).

Westshore Rebels 72
Kamloops Broncos 0

The Rebels scored 42 points in the second quarter and 63 in the first half cruising to their sixth win of the season.

Quarterback Gavin Session threw for 403 yards and seven touchdowns on 19 completions and even ran for a TD leading the charge. Backup Zachary Wetsch also threw a major to combine for eight touchdowns through the air.  Zion Brown hauled in three of them and caught seven passes in total for 125 yards.  Brady Jenkins, Aidan Bowles, Tyrell Hofland, Antwone Daley and Tristan Remus-Arevalo also had scores.  Remus-Arevalo tallied a game high 132 yards on five receptions.

In total, the Rebels were indeed impressive with 497 yards passing and 632 net offensive yards.

The defence forced seven turnovers including a Seth Backwith 19-yard pick six and they recorded seven team sacks and blocked two kicks.

Next week the Rebels (6-1) visit the Okanagan Sun (7-0) in a rematch of the top two teams in the Conference, and the Broncos (0-7) lick their wounds during a bye week.

Valley Huskers 37
Langley Rams 13

A 24-point second quarter propelled the Huskers to a Cascade Cup victory over the Rams and more importantly their second win of the BC Conference season as they look to get themselves back into playoff contention.

Three Huskers’ quarterbacks combined for 316 yards through the air with Key’Shaun Dorsey throwing a pair of touchdown passes, one to Hasan Khangura and the other to Trey White.   The ground attack also yielded two touchdowns with Jawad Harb and Abdul Kiawen each getting into the endzone.   In all, the offence gained 459 yards.

Kicker Carson Turner continues to be outstanding knocking through all three field goal attempts from 34, 31 and 25 yards respectively.

The Rams offence sputtered against the Huskers as their lone touchdown came from the defensive side of the ball.   Cade Handy returned a 47-yard interception for the major in the second quarter while Sean Cullen was all over the field making 10 solo tackles in the loss.

Next weekend the Huskers (2-4) visit the Prince George Kodiaks (4-3) and the Rams (2-4) host the VI Raiders (2-4) in their final home game of the season.  Playoff positioning is on the line for both games.
