All 20 CJFL teams are piecing together their 2025 roster with the CJFL’s Letter of Intent (LOI) program. Each team can sign up to 10 players under the program before National Signing Day on June 1, 2025.
The Kamloops Broncos are making a strong push in the offseason to secure several players in an effort to get back to the CJFL playoffs this year. They have had numerous players commit to their program and have currently signed five of their allotted 10 LOIs.
On the defensive side the Broncos signed defensive back Lucas Yanchishyn (pictured) from the Winnipeg Rifles who will no doubt make an immediate impact. Last season he made two interceptions, 16 tackles, three knockdowns and assisted on six other tackles. Check out his highlight reel below.
Also, on defence the Broncos have added defensive lineman Chinaza Iloka from Australia who last played with the UniSA Eagles American Football Club. Chaz has been exposed to the Canadian game before, playing for the U20 Outback team that took part in the World Championship in Edmonton last summer.
Linebacker Noah Jonatchick joins the Broncos from Oak Park high school in Winnipeg. At 5’11 and 165 pounds, he will fill out quickly in the CJFL and will use his speed to make a difference each time he steps on the field at Hillside Stadium.
Offensively the Broncos have signed three players to LOIs including quarterback Chase Witzel from Kelowna Senior Secondary. He had a wonderful career with the Owls earning a spot on the Team BC roster and was part of the 2024 FPC West Showcase where he drew significant attention. He will no doubt push the Broncos to take more and more snaps as the CJFL season unfolds.
A pair of players from Vincent Massey high school in Brandon Manitoba have also signed with the Broncos. Running back Brayden Smith moves to BC after eclipsing 1000 yards in seven high school games in his senior season. As a matter of fact, he rushed 23 times for 184 yards and scored three touchdowns in his final high school game, setting the tone for potentially a long and successful CJFL career.
Smith will be joined by fellow Vincent Massey grad Cole Ericson who is a 6’2, 292-pound offensive lineman.
