Calgary Colts @ Regina Thunder – Sunday October 13, 1:00pm – Leibel Stadium | WATCH HERE

This is a semi-final tilt between the #2 Thunder and #3 Colts with the winner advancing to the 2024 Prairie Conference final next weekend.

They just met last weekend in the regular season finale with the winner capturing homefield advantage.  The Thunder won that game 40-21 and clinched second place and this home playoff date.   Interestingly enough they only met once during the season which was the game last weekend.

The Thunder roll into the playoffs winning three of their last four games and have 3-1 home record.  That said, they are a perfect 3-0 at Leibel Field with their only set back, a game at Mosaic Stadium against the Saskatoon Hilltops.  Conversely the Colts gallop into the postseason winning just once in their last three games and support a 1-3 record on the road this season.

Both teams can score points and have some outstanding athletes on the offensive side.  The Thunder averaged 34.5 points a game and the Colts 26.   Where the Thunder have a balanced attack and multiple weapons like Sadik Sadik, Carter Moberg and Ryland Leichert, the Colts are a bit more one dimensional and love to get the ball into the hands of Zion Dogbe-Brown.  He averaged over seven yards with each carry and showed he is just as lethal leaking out of the backfield.  If they can get the ball to Blaise Newberry and balance the production out with Dogbe-Brown the Colts could be in for a very good afternoon.

Defensively these two teams are not as even.  The Thunder allowed 15.8 points a game while the Colts gave up over 26 points.  They will need to tighten this weekend against a Thunder team that has shown a great mix of run and pass during the regular season.   Meanwhile the Thunder will no doubt try and take Dogbe-Brown and Newberry out of the equation and let someone try and beat them.

This game should be a fun one to watch with the winner advancing to the Prairie Conference championship game against either the Saskatoon Hilltops or Edmonton Huskies next weekend.  Enjoy turkey and pigskin this weekend.
